Chapter 50
“Where are you going?” Malcolm’s tone was harsh, carrying an oppressive edge
“What? Do you still want to restrict my freedom?” Janice stopped in her tracks and turned to challenge him, her eyes defiant. “Since you’re so free, why don’t you go and soothe your fiancée?”
Without waiting for a response, she ignored the increasingly sour expression on his face. She turned on her heels and left the room without a second plance.
was fixed on Janice’s retreating figure, his expression unreadable. The phone kept ringing relentlessly, and he finally answered it.
Malcolm’s gaze was
Janice leaned against the wall as she walked, her heels clicking sharply on the empty hallway, each step echoing in her ears like a hammering in her
heart.
“Malcolm, do you really think I care?” she muttered to hersell, but his deep, intense eyes and the searing heat that had nearly consumed her kept flashing in her mind.
“Damn it!” Janice shook her head, trying to shake off the images, but the harder she tried, the clearer they became.
Back at her apartment, she was so exhausted that she collapsed onto the couch. She closed her eyes but sleep eluded her. Her mind was filled with nothing but Malcolm
Suddenly, the jarring sound of her phone yanked her from the haze of exhaustion. Groggily, Janice picked up the call
“Janice! What the hell is going on? What happened with the formula you modified? Do you realize you nearly killed someone? Samuel’s roar cracked through the phone like thunder, making her ears ring.
Janice jolted awake, and her heart raced.
“What did you say? What’s happening?”
“You’ll find out when you get here!” Samuel snapped before hanging up in anger.
Panicked, Janice quickly changed. She rushed out of the apartment and hailed a cab straight to Gomez Corporation.
Throughout the ride, Samuel’s words kept echoing in her mind. Her heart felt as though it was gripped by an invisible hand, tight and suffocating, almost stealing her breath.
When she arrived at the office, before even entering, she could hear the chaotic sounds of frantic voices coming from inside.
“How did this happen? How could this happen?”
“Everyone, we need to figure something out. The patient is in critical condition!”
Janice’s heart sank as she hurried into the office. She saw several colleagues gathered around a young woman, her face pale, her lips turning blue. Her chest was rising and falling erratically.
The situation looked dire.
“What’s going on?” Janice asked andously, grabbing one of her colleagues.
“Ms. Ludwig, this young lady used our new product and suddenly had an allergic reaction. Now…” her colleague explained anxiously.
Without wasting a moment, Janice pushed past the others. She then crouched down and quickly began to assess the young woman’s condition
“Rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing… It’s an acute anaphylactic shock!” Janice exclaimed. “Call an ambulance, now!”
As she spoke, Janice quickly rummaged through her bag and pulled out a first aid kit, expertly applying pressure to the young woman’s pulse points and administering emergency care.
Seconds ticked by, and beads of sweat formed on Janice’s forehead, but she didn’t allow herself to relax for a second. She remained fully focused on stabilizing the young woman, continuing her efforts until the ambulance finally arrived.
Finally, the young woman’s condition was stabilized,
Janice slumped into the chair, watching as the medical team carried her away. At that moment, her mind was on high alert.
How could there be a problem with the tester?
She had personally checked this batch of testers, so there was no way it could be faulty!
