Chapter 47
Kody hesitated for a moment, then answered the call.
“Hello?”

“Where are you? Come home for dinner,” Malcolm said. His voice was devoid of emotion yet carried an undeniable authority.
Kody instinctively glanced at Janice, who had her head lowered. Her expression was hidden, but from her slightly trembling shoulders, he could feel the sadness that enveloped her at that moment.
“I’m not coming back I have something to take care of,” Kody refused indifferently as his tone carried an unusual firmness.
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds before Malcolm asked, “Who are you with?
He was actually testing Kody.
“A friend,” Kody replied briefly, unwilling to elaborate.
“Janice?” Malcolm asked as his tone carried an imperceptible chill.
Kody grasped his phone tighter but didn’t deny it.
“Put her on the phone,” Malcolm instructed firmly.
Kody took a deep breath. He walked over to Janice and handed her the phone. “Malcolm is calling.”
Janice slowly raised her head. Her eyes were red and swollen, with traces of unshed tears on her face. At that moment, she looked worn out.
She took the phone and said hoarsely, “Hello”
“Where are you?” Malcolm’s voice gave nothing away.
“It’s none of your business,” Janice replied coldly. Her tone was laced with both defiance and distance
“I’m asking you a question,” Malcolm asked coldly.
“I’m out right now. It’s not a good time to talk” Janice didn’t want to talk to him any longer and was about to hang up.
“Wait,” Malcolm stopped her. “Let’s have a meal together. I also want to… apologize.”
Janice froze for a moment, then let out a bitter laugh. “Apologize? What exactly do you have to apologize for?”
“Reina is still my fiancée. What happened today”
“Flancée?” Janice cut him off. “So you let her hurt me over and over again? Malcolm, are you a fool?”
She was furious. Her long–simmering resentment erupted like a volcano, scorching whatever remained of her rationality.
“Janice!” Malcolm shouted angrily. “Watch your words!”
“What’s wrong? Did I hit a nerve and make you angry?” Janice responded as she let out a cold laugh. It was so obvious that she was actually holding a grudge against Malcolm, “You two are birds of a feather. I’ve finally seen through both of you!”
“Janice, don’t forget, we still have a partnership!” Malcolm said, trying to control his rising anger.
“Partnership, huh?” Janice laughed as if she had just heard the most ridiculous joke. “Malcolm, do you really think I still care? Let me make it clear. From now on, business is business, and personal matters stay personal. If you don’t like it, feel free to end the partnership.”
Kody stood nearby, wanting to say something but unsure of how to respond.
“Janice, don’t be like this…” Kody’s voice was soft and filled with concern.
Janice took a deep breath, forcing herself to regain her composure. She knew she couldn’t lose it now because there were more important matters at hand
“Kody, just hang up the phone.” Janice’s voice had calmed, but it held an undeniable firmness.
Kody ended the call without hesitation. As he looked at Janice’s pale face, he was heartbroken. He knew that what she needed right now wasn’t comfort but an outlet for her to rant.
“Janke, would you like to grab a drink? My treat,” Kody said, trying to sound casual. “I’ve got plenty of pocket money lately, and I haven’t spent much, so you can order whatever you want. Even if you want to order the most expensive drink, I can afford it”
