Chapter 42
Janice scoffed, circling her to open the car door. “I don’t have time to play games with you.”
Reina stopped her again. “Why do you keep pushing me away? I need to discuss something privately with you.”
Janice replied impatiently, “Let’s make it short. I’m in a rush.”
Reina’s eyes showed resentment, but she quickly hid it. She lowered her voice and commanded, “Stay away from Malcolm.”
Janice laughed out loud as if she had just heard an incredible joke. “Who do you think you are to say that?”
“Tell me your conditions,” Reina stated, pushing down her anger and trying to negotiate.
Janice wiped the smile from her face and glared at her sharply. “Return my mom’s grave t we can talk about everything else.”
Reina frowned upon hearing this, yet she still nodded in agreement, saying, “Alright.”
to me. You have no right to take it away. Agree to my terms, and
“Then let’s meet at the cemetery entrance the day after tomorrow,” Janice suggested. Ignoring Reina, she got into her car and drove away.
As Reina watched the car drive away, a malevolent smile crept across her lips.
The sun shone brightly that Sunday, yet a subtle chill lingered in the air.
Janice was wearing a simple white dress and clutching a bouquet of white calla lilies. She stood at the cemetery entrance, eagerly awaiting Reina’s arrival.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Reina finally arrived. Her dazzling dress and delicate makeup stood in stark contrast to the solemn atmosphere surrounding her.
“Janice, you’re here,” Reina said with a hypocritical smile.
Janice cast a cold glance at her and said nothing. She proceeded directly to Serena’s grave. Reina noticed this and quickly followed her.
As Janice approached the tombstone, she abruptly halted, her complexion draining of color. The once beautiful memorial, filled with flowers, was now in disarray. The tombstone had been toppled over.
The photo was also broken. Serena’s kind smile now appeared unsettling. The sight that sent chills down her spine was the gaping hole in the grave, where the um should have rested. Instead, only scattered ashes remained, leaving her utterly stunned.
“Mom!” Janice went weak, and she almost fell. She immediately grabbed the tombstone to steady herself.
“How could this happen? Who did this?” Janice’s voice quivered as her eyes filled with tears, turning bloodshot.
could this
Reina watched Janice break down, feeling a brief hint of pleasure. She quickly masked her emotions and gasped in feigned disbelief. “How could happen? Who would do something so cruel?”
Janice turned to stare at Reina and asked, “Did you do this?”
Reina was shocked but quickly regained her composure. She shook her head innocently. “Janice, how could you doubt me? We may not get along, but I’d never do anything like this.”
Janice’s laughter was laced with anger, tears of hatred welling up in her eyes. “Reina, you’re the only one who hates my mom enough to desecrate her grave. How dare you insist that this has nothing to do with you?”
