Chapter 40
“Janice, what are you doing here?” Reina masked her anger with a strained smile, yet her voice betrayed a hint of it.
Janice glanced at her indifferently and replied coldly, “I’m here to discuss work with Mr. Gomez.”
Reina scoffed as if she had just heard a ridiculous joke. “Work? Janice, do you genuinely believe Malcolm would entrust the company’s operations to someone as inexperienced as you?”
Janice sneered and was ready to argue back when Malcolm cut in, his tone laced with displeasure. “What are you doing here?”
It was clear he was annoyed by Reina’s unexpected interruption.
Reina’s smile faltered, and she hurriedly explained, “I… I just baked some pastries and wanted to send them to you.”
“It’s unnecessary. I’m not hungry,” Malcolm replied icily. Without looking at her, he continued reading the documents Janice had provided.
Reina stood there, feeling awkward and torn. She cast a pleading glance at Malcolm and asked softly, “Malcolm, are you still mad at me? I was wrong. I shouldn’t have…”
He slammed the file shut impatiently and fixed her with a piercing gaze. “Reina, don’t test my
limits.”
She was taken aback by Malcolm’s chilling gaze. A shiver ran down her spine, causing the pastry box in her hand to nearly slip from her grasp. She understood exactly what he meant, and a wave of shame and irritation washed over her, but she dared not respond. She felt unjustly treated, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Malcolm shot Reina a frosty glare before averting his eyes to Janice. “Please continue.”
Janice grabbed the documents from the table and suggested, “I believe we can enhance the Timeless‘ series by focusing on…”
She remained calm and confident, unaffected by Reina.
Reina watched from the sidelines as Malcolm and Janice engrossed themselves in work, completely ignoring her presence. A surge of jealousy burned within her.
Despite Malcolm’s indifference, she understood the importance of not acting on impulse. In a moment of frustration, she glared at Janice before decisively leaving the office.
“How ridiculous!” Reina yelled as she returned home, throwing the box of pastries at the maid. The pastries scattered across the floor, leaving the maid. trembling in fear.
“What’s going on? Who upset you this time? Garrett asked as he stepped out of the study, his heart sinking at the sight of Reina.
“It’s Janice, that bitch!” Reina exclaimed angrily, stomping her feet. “Dad, she’s with Malcolm every day, and I’m worried…”
Garrett frowned. “What are you worried about? Do you think Janice might steal your fiancé?”
Reina bit her lip in silence, yet the concern and hatred flickering in her eyes revealed everything.
Garrett assured her confidently. “Don’t worry. Malcolm will never get away. Mr. Gomez Senior once promised that Malcolm would only marry someone from the Ludwig family. The Gomez family takes promises very seriously and would never go back on their word.”
