Chapter 34
As Reina contemplated this, her eyes became teary, enhancing her vulnerable appearance, With a soft pull on Malcolm’s sleeve, she asked softly,” Malcolm, does Janice hate me?”
Malcolm halted and glanced down at her, feeling a surge of inexplicable irritation. He spoke calmly, his tone unclear whether he was happy or angry, “I’ll find out what happened today.”
Reina was anxious when she heard his response. An unsettling feeling washed over her as she pondered his intentions. She wondered if he had doubted her. “I didn’t lie, Malcolm. Janice was-
“That’s enough,” Malcolm cut her off, his voice tinged with impatience. “Apologize to Mr. Reynolds first.”
Reina bit her lip, suppressing her grievances and resentment. She could only nod in compliance
As they approached Henry, Malcolm spoke up first, offering an apology. “Mr. Reynolds, I sincerely regret how I handled things today. I’m so sorry for what happened earlier.”
Henry was perceptive and could easily detect Malcolm’s displeasure. With a warm smile, he attempted to ease the tension, “Mr. Gomez, surely you’re joking. It’s completely natural for young people to experience minor disagreements.”
Afterward, he gazed at Reina and asked kindly. “And this is?”
“This is Reina Ludwig, my… fiancée.” Malcolm introduced flatly.
A pang of anxiety shot through Reina’s heart, yet she managed to muster a decent smile. “Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Reynolds ”
“Ah, I see. Ms. Ludwig is absolutely stunning.” Henry praised
Reina spoke a few meek words, yet the discomfort within her only deepened. Given Malcolm’s high standing, it was clear that Henry wouldn’t dare to voice any objections, even if she turned the gathering into utter chaos.
Asking her to apologize was clearly a warning. Fearing Malcolm’s wrath, she swallowed her discontent and feigned compliance, forcing herself to feign a sincere apology to Henry.
“Mr. Reynolds, I’m sorry for the trouble I’ve caused, and I hope you can forgive me.”
Henry smiled and waved his hand, showing it was all water under the bridge.
Just then, Josephine heard Reina’s voice and stepped out of the next room.
“Reina, I owe it all to Janice for helping me. I’d be in trouble otherwise,” she said.
Reina’s
heart sank, unease creeping in. She forced a smile and replied, “It’s just a minor issue, Mrs. Reynolds. It’s what Janice should do.”
“My brother is also a doctor. He has always dreamed of finding a mentor with exceptional medical skills to learn from. Do you think Janice would be open to providing him with some guidance? Josephine asked, her eyes locked on Reina
Reina was stunned as her worst fears came to life before her. If Janice managed to connect with Hades Corporation, her success would skyrocket even
further.
