Chapter 33
The moment Janice finished speaking, the leader, sprawled on the floor, began to crawl toward Reina. He grasped her legs tightly, tears streaming down
his face.
“Ms. Ludwig, please help us! You only mentioned bringing this woman here and ‘entertaining‘ her, but you never said we’d be risking our lives.”
When he shouted, the other men joined in. They started scolding Reina as if she were an unforgivable sinner.
The sudden change caught Reina off guard, She forcefully freed herself from the grip of the man restraining her legs and shouted, “What nonsense are you talking about? I don’t even know you. I didn’t ask you to do this”
She glanced around in panic, hoping someone would believe her, but the crowd regarded her with suspicion and disdain.
Janice observed the absurdity unfolding before her, a smirk crossing her lips. She stood up slowly and approached Reina. Shooting her condescending look, she asked coldly, “Reina, how long can you keep pretending?”
Reina’s face turned ashen, and her eyes darted nervously, yet she remained adamant. “Janice, I truly have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t eve recognize these people.”
“Are you sure?” Janice sneered
Then, she directed her gaze to one of the imposing men and asked, “You claim she ordered you to harm me, but do you have any proof to back it up?” The man was momentarily stunned before quickly taking out his phone from his pocket. He pulled up a photo and eagerly presented it to Janice. “Look!” he exclaimed. “This is proof. Here’s the deposit Ms. Ludwig provided us. She promised to pay more after the deal.”
The photograph captured Reina interacting with several burly men present. Despite the slight blurriness, her face was still distinctly visible. Janice picked up the phone and examined it closely. With a sly smile, she passed the phone over to Reina. “So, what do you think? Are you still going to keep pretending?”
Reina gazed at the photo on the phone and turned pale. Her lips quivered, yet she found herself unable to utter a single word
“Enough!” A deep, commanding voice captured everyone’s attention. Malcolm entered the room in a black suit, flanked by bodyguards and wearing at serious expression.
He walked straight to Reina, enveloping her in his embrace. With a piercing gaze, he surveyed the room, his eyes finally landing on Janice as he spoke in a chilling tone. “Janice, it’s time to stop making a fuss!TM
Janice observed the scene and was filled with disdain. As expected, he always prioritized Reina without hesitation. She took a deep breath to stifle the bitterness and anger rising within her.
She remarked calmly, “Making a tuss? I’m just defending my innocence. How can that possibly be considered making a fuss?”
Malcolm glanced at Janice, his voice icy as he said, “Janice, it’s Mr. Reynolds‘ birthday today. There’s no need to create a scene and turn yourself into a laughingstock. What’s the point?
Janice watched the sight before her, struck by its profound irony. She inhaled deeply, taming her fury, and sneered “Malcolm, you truly are impressive!”
With that, she ignored them and left the room.
Malcolm and Reina were left alone in the room. The atmosphere was awloward and tense. Reina carefully tugged on his sleeve, her voice shaky. Malcolm, Janice misunderstood me…”
Malcolm gazed down at her with a complex expression but remained silent. Reina’s heart raced, and she was filled with a sense of dread.
Malcolm held Reina in his arms as he silently exited the room. Reina averted her gaze, concealing the resentment and reluctance that simmered within her. Yet, she couldn’t resist the opportunity to speak ill of Janice in his presence.
