Chapter 30
“I don’t care what kind of person she is. As long as I like her, nothing else matters,” Kody persisted.
He added, “Malcolm, don’t worry about me. I’m not the one who’s inheriting Gomez Corporation, so what’s wrong with having a little fun?”
Malcolm’s deep gaze flickered with an undesirable emotion. “Kody, I’m warning you. Stay away from her.”
Kody had wanted to say more but was immediately silenced by Malcolm’s sharp gaze. He watched Malcoln’s departing figure, feeling utterly confused.
He couldn’t seem to figure out why Malcolm held so mach hostility toward Janice. The next time he got a chance, he decided he would ask Janice about it.
Janice headed to the restroom after she had left Malcolm. She had just exited when she unexpectedly bumped into Reine
Reina was wearing a champagne–colored evening gown. It accentuated her fair skin and made her look absolutely enchanting
“Janice, are you here to use the restroom too?” The moment Reina saw Janice, she immediately revealed a fake smile.
Janice shot her a glance. She then walked right past her without saying a word
“Janice, wait for me,” Reina quickly caught up to her. Her face was still plastered with a sweet smile.
Janice stopped in her tracks and turned to face her. Her lips curved into a mocking smile. “What the matter?”
Reina wrapped her hands around Janice’s arm and said affectionately, “Janice, why didn’t you tell me you were attending the banquet tonight? I could have introduced you to a few people. That way, you wouldn’t have to be all alone.”
Janice shrugged out of her hold and said coldly, “No need. We aren’t that close.”
Reina’s smile froze, but she quickly regained composure. She pulled Janice toward a few wealthy–looking ladies and introduced with a smile, “Everyone, this is my sister, Janice.”
The few ladies scanned Janice from head to toe, and their eyes were filled with disdain.
“So this is your half–sister? She doesn’t look like much,” one of the ladies whispered to Reina.
“You’re right. What does she even do? How could she have the audacity to attend a banquet like this?” another lady chimed in.
“I think I remember her. Isn’t she the one who was involved with all those gangsters back in high school?”
Listening to their whispers, Reina’s smile deepened. She deliberately said to Janice, “Janice, don’t mind them. They’re just a bit blunt with their words.. They don’t mean any harm.”
As if she had heard something amusing, Janice let out a dry laugh. “Do you honestly think I don’t see what you’re doing? You’re simply trying to embarrass me in front of everyone, aren’t you? But I’m curious, what do you get out of this?”
Reina immediately denied, “Janice, you’re inistaken. I really didn’t mean-
“You didn’t?” Janice cut her off. Her voice suddenly turned cold. “Don’t make me bring up what happened in the past. If I do, it won’t just be me who ends up embarrassed!”
Reina’s face turned ashen as her lips trembled uncontrollably.
Upon hearing their conversation, the wealthy ladies around them instantly grew intrigued. They began whispering among themselves, trying to guess what had happened back then.
“In the past? Could there be more to this than we lanow?”
“By the looks of Reina’s face, I’m guessing it’s nothing good.”
“I knew it. Janice doesn’t look like a woman who’s easy to deal with.”
