Chapter 25
The water came from the office dispenser. How could it have been poisoned?
“That’s impossible! I poured that glass of water directly from the dispenser. How could it have been poisoned?” Janice exclaimed “Who knows if you’re lying? Maybe you put the poison in yourself, just waiting for Emily to take the bait,” Katherine sneered. “Enough“” Samuel’s voice cut through the accusations as he turned toward Emily. “Emily, are you sure the poisoning was caused by the water Janice Gave you?”
Emily nodded firmly. “I’m sure! I didn’t eat or drink anything else apart from that glass of water.”
“This…” Samuel hesitated, caught between two difficult chokes. On one hand, there was Janice, a rare talent for the company. On the other, Emily was a clear victim of poisoning. Who should he believe?
Before he could decide, murmurs began to ripple through the office as colleagues voiced their opinions.
“Oh my God, I never imagined she’d do something like this.”
“People can really surprise you. Who knew she was capable of this?”
“This is terrifying. I’m definitely keeping my distance from her from now on ”
The murmurs washed over Janice like an icy wave. The person she had just saved had turned against her without hesitation. It was clear that someone was orchestrating this entire setup.
Without a word, Janice spun on her heel and left the office. She needed to find Malcolm. The monitoring room was located on the top floor, right next to
the CEO’s office.
Pushing open the door, Janice found Malcolm seated on the couch, a document in hand. The afternoon sunlight streamed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, casting a golden glow over him, making the scene feel almost surreal.
“What is it?” he asked without lifting his gaze, his tone distant and indifferent.
Janice took a deep breath, pushing down the fury that simmered in her chest. I need access to the surveillance footage.”
Finally, Malcolm looked up, his deep eyes unreadable, like a still and ancient well that revealed nothing of his thoughts. “Talk to the relevant department.
“The relevant department? The surveillance has been hacked. The relevant department says I’ll have to wait for the technicians to recover it. You want me to just sit around and wait?” Janice’s lips curled into a cold smile
Malcolm set the document aside. “The company has its rules.”
A chill ran through Janice. He knew someone was framing her, yet he remained indifferent.
“Malcolm, are you really this heartless?” Her fists clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, threatening to break the skin.
“I’ve always kept work and personal matters separate,” he replied, his stance unwavering.
Taking another steadying breath, Janice forced down her rage. A faint, almost provocative smile tugged at her lips as she met Malcolm’s piercing gaze head–on.
“Malcolm, do you really think that what’s between us is just ‘business?”
She took a step closer, her slender fingers brushing along the sharp contours on his face. Her touch was cold, yet it seemed to ignite the air between them with a smoldering intensity.
His eyes darkened, and be seized her wandering hand, his deep voice tinged with warning. “Janice, don’t mess around ”
“Mess around? Haven’t we already crossed that line countless times?”
Her laugh was soft, tinged with a hint of mischief. She deliberately leaned closer, her warm breath–brushing against his ear as she spoke in a tone laced with intimacy
Malcolm’s body tensed, his mind betraying him as flashes of memories surfaced. Those moments, wild and fervent, carefully locked away in a corner of his heart, came rushing back to him.
