“Ah!” Gasps of shock erupted all around.
“Call an ambulance, quickly!”
“What happened to Emily? She was fine this morning!”
The crowd murmured nervously, offering speculations. However, no one dared to step forward to check on Emily Fernadez, the woman who had fainted.
Samuel glanced anxiously at Janice. “Dr. Ludwig, I’ve heard you’re highly skilled in medicine, Can you take a look at her? She just collapsed out of
nowhere”
Janice didn’t hesitate. She crouched down, her slender fingers pressing lightly against Emily’s pulse. Her brow slightly furrowed.
The surrounding colleagues held their breaths, their eyes fixed nervously on Janice, anxious to hear her diagnosis.
After a moment, Janice released the girl’s wrist and retrieved a set of silver needles from her bag. With swift, precise movements, she inserted them into specific points on Emily’s body.
“How is she, Dr. Ludwig? Will Emily be alright? Samuel asked, his worry evident.
Janice put away the needles and replied calmly, “She’s been poisoned. I’ve used acupuncture to temporarily stabilize her condition.”
“Poisoned? Samuel’s face turned pale with shock. “How could she have been poisoned? She’s been in the office all day and hasn’t eaten anything
unusual!”
Janice said nothing, her expression calm. Taking out some paper and a pen from her bag, she quickly wrote a prescription and handed it to Samuel. “Have this prescription filled immediately. Once she takes the decoction, the poison will be neutralized.”
Samuel accepted the prescription and hurriedly arranged for someone to get the herbs.
The medicine was quickly prepared and brought back. A freshly brewed decoction was cautiously placed in front of Janice.
As she approached the bowl, her expression darkened. She waved her hand over the rim, allowing the scent to waft toward her nose. A faint bitterness mixed with an unusual, sweet fragrance lingered in the air.
“This medicine is wrong!” Janice’s face turned cold, her tone sharp
Before she finished speaking, a piercing voice cut through the air.
“What are you saying? You wrote the prescription, and now you’re claiming it’s wrong? Do you even know what you’re doing? If Emily’s condition worsens because of you, can you take responsibility?”
The speaker was Katherine, who had been embarrassed by Janice earlier that morning. Seizing the opportunity, she was eager to humiliate her rival
Although the others stayed silent, doubt crept into their expressions as they glanced at Janice.
Janice shot Katherine a frosty glare. Her voice was frigid as she retorted, “The prescription was correct, but someone added clove to the concoction. It disrupts the medicinal balance and will worsen her condition. Do you know anything about medicine? If not, keep your mouth shut!”
Katherine flinched at Janice’s imposing air but quickly straightened up and snapped back, “Oh, please! Who knows it you’re just making excuses? I bet you deliberately messed up the treatment so you’d have an excuse to send Emily to the hospital Admit it, you need a way to preserve your dignity!”
Janice almost laughed out of sheer exasperation. Where did Katherine even come up with, such absurd theories?Too tired to argue further, Janice lifted Emily into her arms and headed for the exit.
“Mr. Riggs, please arrange for a car. I’ll take her to the hospital immediately.”
Samuel, momentarily stunned, nodded hastily. “Yes, yes, of course. I’ll arrange it right away.”
Katherine watched Janice’s retreating figure with a sly smile. She turned to the other colleagues and sneered, “See? I told you she’s all talk. Everyone thought her medical skills were so amazing, but in the end, she still has to rely on the hospital.”
