Chapter 5
A few nights later, I got a call from Logan’s friend, Jeffrey
Combs.
The background noise suggested he was at a bar.
Jeffrey said, his voice thick with concern, “Natalie, you can’t just go and have an abortion without saying a word, even if you’re fighting with Logan!
“You should’ve seen how devastated he was. He was crying his eyes out!”
So, Logan cried, huh?
The last time I saw him cry was years ago when he broke up with Meryl.
Back then, it made my heart ache.
Now, all I felt was a twisted sense of relief.
I stayed silent, and Jeffrey continued, “If he keeps drinking like this, he’s going to end up in the hospital.
“I can’t stop him; it’s like he’s trying to self–destruct. Please, come to the bar and take him home.”
I thought to myself, “Home?

What home have Logan and I left?
He destroyed our home with his own hands.”
I scoffed and replied, “Let him end up in the hospital.
“It’s not like his wife isn’t already there. If he goes, they can all have a family reunion.”
Jeffrey seemed stunned, and after a few seconds of silence, he asked, “What are you talking about? You two aren’t even married. Where’s he got a wife from?”
I sighed softly, “Logan and Meryl got a marriage license.
“Jeffrey, I can’t let my child be born out of wedlock. Do you understand?”
Jeffrey was flabbergasted.
When he finally came to his senses, he cursed, “What an idiot! What the hell is he thinking?”
I rubbed my temples wearily and said, “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up now.
“Please don’t bring up Logan to me again. I don’t want to hear about it, and I don’t care.”
After hanging up, I let out a long sigh.
Chapter 5
After loving Logan for so many years, I never imagined I’d be the one to walk away.
I used to think I’d stand by him no matter what happened.
But I nearly forgot that I could hurt and be exhausted, too.
The person I should love the most was myself.
