Chapter 3
Meryl showed up unexpectedly, looking frail and weak.
There was a pitiful tone in her voice as she spoke.
“I’ve never been happy in my life.
“Now that I’m on the brink of death, I can’t hold back my feelings any longer.
“I truly love Logan.
“Having him by my side during my final days would make my life feel worthwhile.
“Ms. Dent, I’m so sorry. I hope you can understand my selfishness.”
Her face was so pale it seemed like she might faint at any
moment.
At such a young age, she was nearing the end of her life.
It was indeed tragic.
But what gave Meryl the right to ask for my understanding?
“Meryl, your pitiful act only works on Logan.
“Don’t try to manipulate me with guilt.
Chapter 3
But now, I can’t bring you into this world.
I love you so much, but how can I let you carry the stigma of being an illegitimate child?”
Lying on the operating table, I felt nothing but desolation and despair.

I had once dreamed of a life with Logan, filled with children and growing old together.
But that was just a fantasy.
The pain was unbearable. My heart ached, and my body throbbed.
Logan loved kids. He would hold our relatives‘ children, never wanting to let them go.
He had often talked about how we would have a son and a daughter one day, a girl like me and a boy like him.
On weekends, we’d take our kids to the amusement park for carousel rides or to the zoo to see monkeys and elephants.
During picnics in the countryside, he’d take countless photos of me and our children, capturing our happiness.
Logan had even picked out names for our future kids.
I remembered teasing him at the time, saying, “You’re jumping the gun a bit, aren’t you? We don’t even have a wedding date yet.”
