Chapter 14
Mark’s right hand was wrapped in thick bandages.
I had been crying so much that my eyes were swollen.
He gently brushed my nose with his left hand and said with a hint of exasperation, “I never realized you were such a crier.”
I said, “Come on! You’re hurting like this!”
“I might actually be the lucky one in this situation?” He flashed a sly grin. “Natalie, with my injury so severe, you’re going to have to feed me for the next month.”
I knew Mark was trying to lighten the mood, not wanting me to worry too much.
I suddenly found myself too tired to resist any longer.
I liked him.
I wanted to be with him.
So, I stepped closer and wrapped my arms tightly around his waist.
For a brief moment, his back stiffened.
But then, just as quickly, Mark lifted his left arm and embraced

His voice trembled as he asked, “Natalie, can I take this as a yes?
Are you agreeing to be my girlfriend?”
I softly replied with a “Yes.”
Mark grinned widely, his chest shaking with happiness.
After a moment, his warm lips pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead.
“I’m so happy. I finally have a girlfriend.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
He was as endearing and goofy as a big, lovable dog.
