Chapter 12
It was on the third day back in Hanker City that I ran into Logan.
He looked much thinner, his once–handsome features now appearing worn and haggard.
The moment Logan saw me, his eyes lit up with surprise.
“Natalie, you finally decided to come back.
“I’ve been looking for you everywhere. No one knows where you’ve been.
“I really missed you. I really did.”
By the end of his confession, his voice had a shaky edge to it.
I suddenly felt disgusted.
“You should save that talk for your wife.”
Logan misunderstood my words.
He insisted, “I’m done with Meryl!
“I gave her a huge sum of money to cover her medical bills.
“I’m a free man now. I can marry you!
Chapter 12
“Let’s head to City Hall and get that marriage license, okay?”
I thought, “Seriously?
Does he think he is being romantic?”
I shot him a disdainful glance. “Logan, do you think I’m some kind of
trash can?
“Listen carefully, I don’t love you anymore. Stay away from me and stop bothering me!”
But Logan gripped my wrist tightly, refusing to let me go.
He was using all his strength.
I couldn’t break free.
“Let her go!” A sharp male voice rang out from behind us. “Can’t you see her wrist is red?”
It was Mark.
In the blink of an eye, Mark rushed forward, pushing Logan away and shielding me behind him.
His eyes fell on my wrist. “Natalie, are you okay?”
I shook my head. “I’m fine.”
Logan frowned. “Natalie, who’s he?”
Chapter 12
I shot him a look of annoyance. “What’s it to you?”
Mark, unfazed, took my hand, his expression challenging as he faced Logan. “Can’t you tell? I’m Natalie’s new boyfriend.”
I was
taken aback for a moment.
I thought, “At this point, Mark pretending to be my boyfriend is definitely more advantageous than not.
At least it will help me shake off Logan’s annoying grasp.”
I nodded and said, “Let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Mark Moore.”
Logan’s face turned pale with anger. “I don’t believe it! You loved me so much; how could you possibly move on?”
I must have spoiled Logan with my past submissiveness, and now he was full of misplaced confidence.
Mark jumped in before I could respond. “Why not?
“Setting aside family background, education, and looks, the simple fact that I don’t have an ex–girlfriend puts me leagues ahead of you.
“Mr. Perez, a man like you who claims to be deeply in love but is actually just a player isn’t worthy of Natalie, nor of saying you love her.”
Chapter 12
Logan was left speechless by Mark’s bluntness.
