Chapter 79

The thought of it sent a new wave of hope through me but I knew I had to remain calm. I couldn’t keep being so enthusiastic. There was always the chance of things going south. I had t prepare myself should it ever lead to that.
We eventually reached a small attic. Froste opened the door for me and lead me inside.
“This place holds the working notes of all the Elders.” He explained, helping me to the ladder so I could climb high enough to see the journals sprawled over the place.
I felt a wave of excitement as I run through me as I ran my hands through the journals. Wave after wave of knowledge and I would have access to all of it.
Just the thought of it filled me with so much happiness. I wanted to scream for joy. I’d been so happy about seeing the journals that I forgot I had to be careful with my footing.
I tried to climb higher in a bid to get to some more journals but I ended up missing me my
footing.
Just when I thought I’d hit the ground, strong arms broke my fall with ease. Froste had caught me before I fell to the floor.
This was the first time in a while that I was in Froste arms. I’d almost forgotten what it felt like to have his arms around me, to feel the warmth of his touch.
“I’ve got you.” He smiled
With my face this close, I could feel the heat of his body and muscles. The whole room seemed to have warmed up a little. I shifted a bit in his arms. That small action made his
throat slid up and down.
“Adella.” His voice seemed huskier than it had been before.
I felt a bit odd about the whole shift in the vibe between us. I wanted to leave here, try to
get my thoughts gathered in some way.
Just then, the door to the attic flung open and Askhan walked in, an unknown man in tow.

Shit.
I held my breath, my heart beating faster with each passing second. It thudded so loud that the only thing I could hear was its loud pounding
He hadn’t seen us just yet with how he was moving around. We were most likely in his
blind spot so he must have not noticed us just yet.
Askhan turned to the attendant following him around. “Where is Adella?”
“I–I don’t know, sir.” The attendant stumbled over his words.
The royal prince turned to him, his brows raised in irritation. “Didn’t you say you saw her
and Froste coming this way?”
The man sounded nervous. “Well…yes my lord, but-”
“For fuck sake!” Askhan cursed, the annoyance bleeding into his voice.
He was about to lose his temper. I had to act now before he ended up blowing out on that
attendant.
“Askhan.” I said, stepping out of the corner and making my way towards him.
When his eyes landed on me, they seemed to soften just a little bit. There was still a hint of
annoyance in his eyes.
“Adella.” He sighed, “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
I only hummed out a reply, my gaze drifting to the attendant that was still trembling to the side. It was a given that no one wanted to piss off the royal prince. Still, that didn’t make me
feel any less irritated than I already did.
“You’re literally the Alpha Prince.” I scolded, “How can you be so wilful?”
He had the decency to look a bit remorseful at my words. I’d expected him to maybe get annoyed or mad in some way but nothing. He was simply watching me with those kind eyes that have become pretty characteristic of him.
“Why are you here? What did you come here for?” He stared intently at me.

His eyes held millions of questions and equally an expectation of answers for all the questions. Just as I was about to answer, his gaze flickered away from me.
I turned to see Froste walking into the room, his wolf slowly following him. Askhan’s eyes were still narrowed on him.
The royal prince had never been fond of him. Things were bound to escalate from now. The attendant had slowly taken a step back, his whole body trembling in fear of incurring Askhan’s wrath.
Askhan turned to me briefly. “Did he hurt you?”
I shook my head. “No, he didn’t. We-”
Askhan barely let me finish as he turned back to Froste, his eyes set into a glare. “You’ve been messing with her, aren’t you?”
“No, I’ve done no such thing.” Froste replied, his tone strangely clipped.
The two men were staring each other down with so much intensity that I wanted to just leave the place. The tension would sky–rocket to the room if things didn’t stop soon.
