“No, no.” I shook my head. “I’m fine. I asked them not to follow me.“[]
They all visibly relaxed when I told them that. I took the seat beside Olavir and joined them in breakfast. The table was lively as they all talked with each other.
I tried to feel normal about the whole thing but it wasn’t something I would feel so accustomed to. It was all new to me. Having a family that loved me and weren’t afraid to show that they did. []
Halven stared at Merhold, a smirk teasing at his lips. “It’s all your damn fault you know.“[]
Merhold looked unimpressed, but Halven went on. “It’s your fault for being so damn ceremonial and making our sister uptight. She’s barely gotten the chance to get comfy with us.“]
“Oh yeah?” Merhold’s eyes narrowed on Halven. “Well it’s better than rolling into the bushes with your arm around the maid when you can’t move.“[]
A small giggle left my lips. I loved how they were able to joke freely with each other. They were the most successful men in the werewolf world and here they were, taking friendly jabs at each other.
We continued to enjoy our breakfast. By the time we were done, I excused myself from the table and began making my way out of the castle.
Olavir was hot on my heels and jogged up to meet me. He had a small smile on his face as he turned to me.]]
“How did you sleep?” he asked.[]
“Pretty well if I’m being honest.” I smiled.]
I still hadn’t told any of my brothers about Froste and what happened. It was something that had been eating at me since the previous day. We were still strolling through the paths that lead to the garden.[]
At some point, I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I turned to Olavir whose gaze instinctively turned to meet mine.
“My wolf,” I started carefully. “Recently, I’ve been feeling its pain.“[]
“You have?” He seemed surprised.]
I nodded. “Yes, but I haven’t been able to make a connection just yet.“[]
Olavir took in what I’d said for some time before he spoke again. “I think you’d need the help of the royal elders for this.”
“The royal elders?”
He nodded, but there was a frown on his lips. “But these elders don’t follow the royal orders anymore. They only pick the best to take on as students. They’ll only ever help their students with their problems.“[]
“Really?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“Yeah,” he answered. “We’ve already made arrangements to get you signed up for the Alpha Elders‘ student selection.“[]

He fished something out of his pocket and handed it to me. It was a poster. There was a picture of the most learned elder in the whole country. He was basically considered as the encyclopedia of werewolves.[]
Just getting a small interview with him was worth millions of dollars. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had a chance to campaign for the chance to become his student? It was unbelievable.
Olavir put a hand on my shoulder, a reassuring smile on his lips. “You’ll be fine.“[]

Later that afternoon, I went with a maid to get some books I would need. We’d visited a famed bookshop that was mostly used by the nobility. I was still looking through the shelves for a particular book.
“Well, look what the cat dragged in.‘
My mood soured immediately. I recognized that voice. I raised my head to see Cyrene. She had a smirk on her face as she sized me up.
“What do you want?” I cut right to the chase.
She eyed me up and down before letting out a laugh. Her eyes were full of taunt, daring me to try and retort.]
“You’re trying to enter the Alpha Elders‘ student selection?“]
When I didn’t reply immediately, she cackled again. This time, she inched closer so only I could hear her.
“You’ve never even been educated by the nobility.“[]
“What does that matter?” I glared at her.|]
She shook her head. “Only the nobility gets chosen. You don’t stand a chance.“]]
It was taking a great deal of self–control to stop myself from lashing out at Cyrene. That confident smirk on her face was getting under my skin and I wanted nothing more than to slap it right off her pretentious face.
“Get out of my way.” I said coldly.[]
She didn’t say anything, her body still blocking my path and preventing me from leaving. I knew she wasn’t going to just let me leave.
Every single cell in me screamed that she wouldn’t just let this slide. Cyrene had a mission here, and she wouldn’t just let me go until she’d achieved it.[]
“Give it up and quit this pathetic drama. You don’t stand a chance in the selection.” Cyrene laughed.[]
