Reate turned her head slowly, her eyes void of emotion as she took in Eugene and Calvin, Her voice was gentle, yet there was a clear sense of stance, an unmistakable chill that lingered,
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know any Scarlett you’referring to,” she replied.
Eugene and Calvin’s faces lost all color, their expressions a mix of disbelief and sorrow.
They moved closer, their voices shakding. “Scarlet, we know it’s you! You’re alive. Why didn’t you reach out? Do you have any idea what we’ve been through all these years, and how much pain we’ve carried?
“Now we see Sharon for what she really is. Please, come back to us. Let’s return to how things used to be. We’ll make it right this time, we swear”
Renee looked at them with a calm detachment, faint smile crossing a face. Her voice, quiet yet steely, cut right to the heart.
“Sorry to interrupt, but I’m guessing the Scarlett you’re referring to is Scarlett Swain, the former adopted daughter of the Swain family. I’ve heard that life wasn’t exactly smooth for
her there.
“Her brother and boyfriend had her imprisoned for three years, let others steal her work, and just stood by while Sharon made her life hell. And in the end, Sharon even burned her alive.”
Her voice was calm, but each word cut deep, stabbing them exactly where it hurt the most.
“I’m not her. Even if I were, I have parents who love me, a brother who adores me, and a boyfriend who’s not only handsome but incredible in every way. Why would I want to be that Scarlett, the one who was constantly taken advantage of?”
Her voice remained soft, but there was no mistaking the sharp finality in it. “What could you possibly offer me?”
Eugene and Calvin’s faces drained of color, their eyes revealing a depth of pain and regret.
Their voices trembled, laced with a hint of restrained emotion. “Scarlett, we know we messed up… Please, just give us a chance to make it right, okay? We’ll do right by you, we promise!”
Renee sneered, her voice grim and cold. “I’m not her. You’ve got the wrong person. She’s gone. If you’re trying to make things right, you’ll have to dig six feet down to find that chance. And if you’re looking for redemption, you’d better head there, too.”
Without saying another word, she turned, took Ralph’s hand, and climbed into the car, never once glancing back.
Inside the car, Ralph’s gaze lingered on Renee, thoughtful and filled with quiet affection. A soft smile spread across his face.
Feeling uneasy under his look, Renee asked quiet
Why are you looking at me like that??
Ralph let out a soft, teasing laugh. “Did I just hea you call me your boyfriend, and say I’m incredible in every way?”
Renee’s face turned bright red as she stammere, “1 I was just saying that in passing. Don’t take It too seriously.
Ralph’s smile widened.
He held her chin as his voice grew low and sincere. “Oh, I’m taking it seriously. Just give me a chance, okay? I’ve been after you for three years now. If this goes on much longer, it might drive me insane.”
Renee’s heart raced, and she whispered, “What I say no?”
Ralph didn’t answer. Instead, he kissed her. His lass was gentle yet firm, carrying a quiet determination that left no room for argument. Renee felt breathless under his kiss.
She gently pushed against his chest and murmured, “Y–You shouldn’t be doing this….
But Ralph didn’t pull away. He kept kissing her, his voice a low, smooth hum, almost intoxicating. “Just say yes, okay? Please, sweetheart, just say yes.”
Her heart raced, and she could barely whisper, “Y–You have to let me go first…”
Ralph didn’t let go, continuing to kiss her, his voice tender but insistent. “Say yes, and I’ll let you go.”
Renee felt a wave of dizziness from his kiss.
Eventually, she kissed him back and said, “If depends on how you perform.”
