Chapter 78
Rebecca was pleased to see Raymond answer so promptly.
“Thanks so much ”
“Don’t mention it I’ll inform Mr. Chunder right away.”
He called Raymond immediately and relayed her message. Raymond was happy to comply. After the call ended, he walked toward the study
“Mr. Reid, Ms. Gilden’s friend ran into Gerard in the lobby. She said Ms. Gildon has no one to look after her, so she asked us to help.”
Dominic raised his gaze from his computer screm. His sharp nose bridge framed a pair of silver–rimmed glasses. His distant eyes revealed a flicker of confusion.
“She asked three men to look after an injured woman at night?”
Raymond paused, now realizing how it sounded. He and Gerard hadn’t thought that far ahead.
“Mr. Reid, what should we do?”
“Why don’t you call her and see if she’s okay with it??–
“Alright.” Raymond nodded and called Vespera
“Ms. Gildan, your friend asked us to look after you Mr. Reid wanted me to get your consent first”
vespera, half–dazed in her recliner, was startled by the call. She cursed Rebecca silently.
“My consent?”
“Yes. Mr. Reid was worried you might be uncomfortable since we’re all men. He had me ask first. Are you okay with this?”
It wouldn’t look good if she turned it down.
“Of course I don’t mind, but will it be too much trouble for you?” she asked politely.
“No! Not at all! I just made some chicken soup. I’ll bring it over shortly.”
“But isn’t that for Mr. Reid? It wouldn’t feel right for me to have it”
“Then I’ll have him come down to you, and you two can have it together.”
Her heart sank
“No! Don’t! Mr. Chandler, 1 actually ordered takeout,” she quickly said.
“Takeout? You’re still recovering! It’s important to eat a nutritious meal. That won’t do. I’ll come down, bring you upstairs, and you’ll have dinner with Mr. Reid. I’ll make two mote dishes”
“No! Really, it’s fine
“We’ll do just that.”
Before she could protest further, he ended the call. She sat in stunned silence while he was grinning from ear to ear.
“You’re getting bolder as you age,” besighed.
“The takeout she ordered won’t compare to my chicken soup. Plus, I heard from Gerard that She got hurt at work, She’s such a dedicated young woman. Do you have the heart to let her eat takeout alone?
Dominic remained silent
“I’ll go get Ms. Gildon,” Rapid said, turning to leave.
“The soup’s still on the stove shouldn’t you keep an eye on it?” Dominic asked casually
“Look at me, getting forgetful as age. You’re right, I can’t leave the stove. Would you be so kind as to go in my place? Raymond formed to him
H
“I guess I don’t have a choice.” He stood up with a resigned look.
Vespera had given Raymond her elevator access code and was waiting in her apartment. She was coming up with excuses in her mind when the door opened. To her surprise, it was Dominic, dressed in beige lounge clothes.
At that moment, all her energy and reasoning vanished.
“Mr. Reid, why are you…
She managed a forced smile, but her fingers were digging into her pillow.
“The soup’s still on the stove. He needed to watch it,” he explained casually, his eyes scanning the room
