Chapter 185
Claire really was willing to try every weird trick in the book for Tina. Not even were off–limits. It was borderline insane.
spiritual experts
Rebecca had picked up on Claire’s superstitious streak and followed that lead, hoping to dig something up. Now, it all made sense.
To make communication easier, the four of them sat down around the table.
Vespera wrote on the paper, “Judging by that girls tone, Becca should be safe for now, but she was acting strange. I can’t figure her out.”
Dominic wrote, “First, we find her. Make sure she’s safe.”
Vespera nodded. “Deal!”
Based on what they knew, it wasn’t the worst idea to wait for Claire to show up before taking action. But… she was still uneasy. She couldn’t let her guard down, not until she was sure Rebecca was safe. Anything less, and her nerves wouldn’t settle.
Yasmine stayed quiet, off to the side.
Dominic wrote something else and passed the note to Calvert, “Go find her.‘”
“1
Calvert took the pen and scribbled back in chicken scratch, “Leave it to me, Mr. Reid, I’ll make sure this gets back into the reid hands, good as new.”
Misusing a cliché was one thing, but spelling “right” as “reid?” That took a special kind of
confidence.
He finished writing and flashed Dominic a proud grin.
Dominic and Vespera were both speechless.
Yasmine looked skeptical.
Back into the right hands? Was he calling Rebecca some kind of priceless antique? More importantly, whose hands were the “right” ones?
Back to reid…
To Reid!
Her eyes darted to Dominic, horrified.
She began to wonder if he wasn’t just messing around with Vespera but also had something going on with Rebecca too.
That set Yasmine off. Vespera had just barely recovered from her last heartbreak, and now her new guy was betraying her with her best friend?
She yanked the pen out of Calvert’s hand and scrawled across the page, “What’s going on between Ms. Snyder and Mr. Reid? You better tell Me! Everything!”
Calvert was completely confused. He had no idea why Yasmine suddenly snapped or why she was saying all these strange things.
He shrugged, signaling that he had no clue what she was talking about.
Dominic rubbed his forehead. He took the sticky note, tore off that page, and scribbled a new line before tossing it back to Calvert, “Go. Now. And stop misusing clichés!”
Calvert stood up. As he walked off, he kept wondering what was wrong with that cliché. Didn’t it just mean he was trying to get Rebecca back or something?”
The little Ameridian guy, who’d only just started picking up high–level Hanic in Mandora, was suddenly doubting himself all over again.
After Calvert left, an awkward silence fell over the room.
About a minute passed before Dominic finally spoke. “He grew up in Ameridia. He’s only been learning Hanic for a few years.”
Yasmine narrowed her eyes. “Oh, really? And that wasn’t just a slip?”
Her face screamed, “I’m not buying it.”
Vespera stepped in to clarify. “It was just a misunderstanding.”
Yasmine shot her a look that seemed to say, “Girl, don’t be so naive. Men always want what’s in the bowl while eyeing the pot.”
Vespera sighed. She didn’t know how else to convince her.
A moment later, Calvert returned. He sat down and scribbled a line on the sticky note.
Dominic glanced down and understood more or less what he meant right away.
Vespera and Yasmine stared at it for a while–two very different kinds of pretty, both equally confused. They wondered what this was even supposed to say.
Scrawled across the paper were the words, “She mess up as a spyrichul espurt at Ms. Kinsman
there.”
Yasmine now fully believed the guy was from overseas and was still struggling with Hanic.
Dominic picked up the pen and translated the line for them underneath, “Ms. Snyder is with Ms. Kinsman. She’s probably dressed up like some kind of spiritual expert, too.”
Calvert nodded enthusiastically. That was exactly what he meant.
Vespera and Yasmine were both silent. They had thought Rebecca was bringing something to mess up and destroy Miranda–not whatever this was.
Then Calvert wrote, “There’s no creamer here. You can go to the netherdoor.”
