Chapter 171
Dominic ordered, “Make her drop the habit then.
Vespera responded, “Alright, I’ll tell her to change it.”
Why did Dominic have such a sharp hearing? What was wrong with her ex–subordinate calling her their manager? What was wrong with inviting her for lunch?
Without saying anything else, Dominic continued to walk forward and entered his office.
Behind him, Vespera let out a deep sigh.
Meanwhile, Gerard stared at the now–closed door of the president’s office. Could it be that Dominic hadn’t vented everything out?
He turned around to comfort Vespera with a look of utmost sympathy, “It isn’t your fault. Sometimes, men struggle with self–control. It’s kind of like menopause.”
Vespera wondered what was so hard to control. Wasn’t pettiness supposed to be a woman’s
talent?
Gerard noticed that she was still looking lost. “Don’t worry. I’ll help you.”
Vespera didn’t know how Gerard was going to help her. In fact, were they even thinking about the same thing?
At 11:20 am, Vespera drove away from the company. The restaurant was near Eclipse Group. It was about a 28–minute drive away. It was an Edevran restaurant they used to frequent for company gatherings.
She hit a bit of traffic on the way and arrived at Secret Spring just around noon. When she stepped inside, the restaurant owner greeted her with a smile and told her that Christine was waiting in the private dining room.
Vespera headed inside and wondered why Christine booked such a large private dining room when it was just the two of them.
When she was about to push the door open, she hesitated. Her hand hovered mid–air as she fell into deep thought. Then, the door was pulled open.
“Ms. Gildon.”
Christine showed up at the door and pulled Vespera inside. Just as Vespera was about to dismiss her suspicions, someone stepped out from the divider. It was none other than Luke!
Vespera snorted and turned to leave. However, Luke took a few quick steps forward and blocked her path before having Christine leave.
Christine cast an apologetic glance at Vespera, But Vespera refused to look at her. She never spared a second glance at people who betrayed her.
Christine quickly left the private dining room with her head down, feeling sad.
“Move aside!” Vespera ordered coldly. Her gaze was icy and filled with hatred.
If Luke had divorced her cleanly back then, if he bad admitted to his infidelity and feelings for another woman, she wouldn’t have cared how cruel Tina was. She would have just treated those eight years as waste and considered him dead after the divorce.
Or, if he had truly repented and woken up to his mistakes, she might have let go of her resentment and walked her own path without bothering to remember him.
But no, he just had to betray her and then had the audacity to act like he still loved her. He claimed she was the only one in his heart while Tina carried his child.
Luke saw with his own eyes just how vicious Tina was. That night, he sat by Vespera’s hospital bed, crying and repenting, which made her believe for a moment that maybe he really did regret it. And yet, the moment Tina got pregnant with his child, he immediately changed his
stance.
The sheer disgust Vespera felt was like being force–fed filth over and over again. In truth, Luke’s love for anyone was fake. The only person he ever truly loved was himself.
“I just…” He didn’t dare to look into her eyes. “I just want to talk to you.”
Vespera’s gaze was as sharp as a knife. “I don’t want to hear anything from you, but since you’re standing in my way, I might as well say something. From now on, we’re enemies. I’ll make Tina pay for what she has done. As long as I’m in Halewick, as long as I’m still alive, she won’t get away with it!
“As for you…” Vespera scoffed in disdain. The sound pierced through Luke like a blade. “You. can go on living this way. Some people only grow closer to becoming ghosts the longer they live.”
With that, she took two steps back and walked around him before walking straight for the
door.
