Chapter 169
Vespera’s eyes trembled as if a severe earthquake had shaken her body. She thought that
Rebecca was insane.
But what truly threw her into chaos was that Dominic actually started considering it seriously. He leaned back with his arms crossed and furrowed his brow as if he were negotiating a major business deal..
After a moment of deep thought, he finally came to a conclusion. “It’s not entirely impossible.
Vespera was once again at a loss for words. Why did lie agree?
Rebecca, who had spoken recklessly in the heat of the moment, stared at Dominic in shock. Then, she glanced at Vespera, her childhood friend, who looked like she was about to faint. It suddenly dawned on her that she might have just accidentally opened Pandora’s box.
“Right?” Rebecca chuckled awkwardly, trying to laugh it off and move on.
However, once Pandora’s box was open, it wasn’t easy to close. Dominic added, “It’s a viable option, but she’s timid. She probably wouldn’t dare.”
As he spoke, his gaze landed on Vespera.
This time, there was no way Vespera would dare to brag about being fearless. At this moment, her only option was to play dead.
The atmosphere turned strange. Rebecca’s eyes darted between Vespera and Dominic several to him before asking cautiously, times. She rested her arm on the table and inched a bit clo “So, all it takes is being bold?”
Dominic didn’t answer. He simply looked at Rebecca with an indifferent gaze.
“I’m pretty bold.” Rebecca leaned a little closer and raised her wrist, showing off her balance bead bracelet. “To be honest, I mostly work as a lawyer, but my side gig is catching spirits.
my
“When I was a kid, I was really sickly. A fortune teller once said I wouldn’t live past 18. So grandmother,ho was the most famous spiritual expert in the area, taught me all her skills to keep me alive.”
Dominic was at a loss for words. He let out a dry chuckle before getting up to leave. As Rebecca watched him walk away, she shot a look at Vespera. She hinted that they should get out of there now.
Vesperà immediately got up. The two took a few steps forward before suddenly remembering that they had left the ravioli behind. So, they hurried back to grab them.
Once outside, they bid farewell to Raymond and hurried away without breaking stride. When
they reached Vespera’s apartment building, she began to hit Rebecca playfully.
Rebecca pleaded for mercy, “I wasn’t thinking and just blurted it out! How was I supposed to know he would actually consider it? Why don’t you consider it
o? just be a bit braver.”
Vespera huffed. “Let me go and catch a spirit first and train my courage.”
She remembered how Rebecca had spouted nonsense earlier that rendered Dominic speechless, and she couldn’t help but laugh. “So, tell me, the heir to the Snyder family
spiritual expert lineage, how does one catch a spirit?”
Rebecca removed her balance bead bracelet and placed it on Vespera’s hand solemnly. “From now on, you’re my apprentice. Please address me respectfully.”
Once again, Vespera was at a loss for words. Having a best friend who was both effortlessly cool and completely unhinged was truly an experience.
espera decided to ignore Rebecca and went to unpack her luggage. She tossed her clothes into the washing machine. Then, she took a shower and dove headfirst into her soft and fragrant bed. She lay on her stomach with her eyes closed.
Meanwhile, Rebecca, who was staying over for the night, was scrolling through her phone. Seeing Vespera lying face–down on the pillow, she scooted closer and whispered, “Vera is really going to marry Tina. Are you sure you don’t feel even the slightest bit upset?”
After all, people weren’t made of stone. Even if Vespera and Luke had separated, was it really possible to be completely indifferent like a robot with no emotions so quickly?
Without opening her eyes, Vespera responded lazily, “I do feel something, but I’m not upset. I find it unlucky and disgusting. Thank god you didn’t tell me before we ate the ravioli. Otherwise, a perfectly good meal would have been ruined.”
Rebecca chuckled, feeling reassured. After all, with those two getting married, they were bound to stir up trouble sooner or later. Rebecca didn’t want Vespera to suffer because of it.
“Hey, but seriously though, Dominic is gorgeous. Maybe you should just have a taste of him?”
Vespera was bewildered. A certain image flashed through her mind, and suddenly, her face felt a bit warm. “Are you sure it would be me having a taste of him and not the other way around? Have you ever seen an antelope eat a lion in the wild?”
Rebecca had the ht too highly of Vespera.
“Does it really matter?” Rebecca asked with a shrug. “When the time comes, you’ll be in him, and he’ll be in you. Water and milk blend together, so why are you trying to keep it separate?
