Vespera stiffened at his words..
Dominic’s tone made it clear that he had seen through her reluctance to be around him. Since she was being unprofessional, he chose to bluntly call her out. He hadn’t considered her feelings because he was angry.
Although he wasn’t wrong, she had only just considered returning first. She hadn’t said it aloud, so it felt unnecessary for him to be this direct.
“Alright, if you say so,” she replied, calm and unruffled.
She had a rough idea of why he acted this way toward her. The main reason was how she played dumb this morning and just now.
It seemed her career as a secretary might soon end since all she could do was play dumb.
Dominic didn’t respond. The silence in the car became worse than before.
Watching the two of them, the driver couldn’t help but worry as he continued down the road.
Dominic hadn’t given a clear answer about whether she could return to Halewick, and she hadn’t followed up either.
They soon arrived at the private club where Dominic was supposed to meet his friend. Both of them stepped out of the car.
Vespera walked to the trunk and pulled out her luggage.
“Mr. Reid, have a great time with your friend. I’ll be heading back to Halewick first,” she said. gently.
Just as she was about to leave, Dominic reached out and pressed his hand on her suitcase. He
looked at her for a moment.
“I lost my temper,” he admitted.
“With your position and status, you can afford to lose your temper anytime you want,” she replied with a smile.
Her gentle tone cut like knives. He fell silent for a moment.
“From now on, that rule doesn’t apply to you.”
She stood there, listening. A twinge rose in her chest. This was a bad sign.
Without waiting for her reply, Dominic placed her suitcase back into the trunk and headed into the club.
Vespera had no choice but to follow him.
On the fifth–floor balcony of the club stood an fcredibly tall man with a powerful build. The buttons on his black dress shirt looked like they might pop at any second.
He had sharp features, a chiseled jawline, and sun–kissed skin. His presence radiated rugged sensuality–a raw masculinity that could be felt from miles away.
Yet he wore a suit and leather shoes, the kind that screamed business professional.
At the moment, he leaned lazily against the balcony railing, watching the absurd scene between Dominic and Vespera unfold with mild amusement as he smoked a cigarette.
He never imagined he’d live to see the day Dominic lowered his head to a woman. Stroking his chin, he thought Dominic looked almost cute with that expression.
Moments later, he saw them enter the building. He put out his cigarette and stepped back.
inside.
As Dominic and Vespera walked in, the manager greeted them with the utmost respect and led them toward the elevator.
“Mr. Locke is expecting you on the fifth floor,” the manager informed them.
Dominic gave a nod and stepped into the elevator. Vespera followed, standing behind him to
his left.
Moments later, they arrived. Dominic headed straight for the private dining room at the center. When he was about to step inside, Vespera stopped him.
“Mr. Reid, I’ll wait outside,” she said.
He turned to look at her. “It’s a big room,” he replied, subtly suggesting for her to get in.
“Alright.”
He pushed the door open.
When Vespera stepped into the spacious room, she noticed a handsome man was already seated at the tab From the looks of it, he had definitely put in effort on his chest muscles.
