The moment Jordan suggested treating them to supper, an alarm bell went off in Vespera’s head. She confirmed her suspicions when she saw Jordan exchange glances with one of the
others.
She knew she had to stop Dominic from having ‘supper” with them. She strode toward him calmly, but her heart was pounding anxiously.
“Mr. Reid, your nutritionist strongly prohibited you from eating after 9:30 pm,” she said smoothly. “So why don’t we skip supper?”
Dominic’s expression softened, and he smiled as he said, “Very well.‘
“Ms. Gildon, aren’t you being a little too much?” Jordan questioned.
“Mr. Aldridge, I think you’ve misunderstood. I wouldn’t have brought it up if it weren’t for Mrs. Reid. The nutritionist she hired is really strict, and we’re required to submit a daily report. Everything has to be accurate. I’m just doing my job–I wouldn’t want to disappoint her,” Vespera said politely.
“So you’re using his mom against me?” Jordan scoffed.
“Of course not.”
“Then if she says yes, we can have supper, right?” Jordan asked and reached for his phone.
He was certain Vespera had lied about the nutritionist and Fawn’s instructions. He intended to scare her by pretending to make the call.
Seeing that he had put his beloved secretary in a tough spot, Dominic would have no choice. but to accept his invitation.
But to his surprise, both of them stood by, as if they were waiting for him to make the call.
Jordan pretended to search for Fawn’s number in his contacts.
Vespera scoffed silently as she watched him. She bet he didn’t have the guts to make that call.
It was only natural for a mother to be furious if she found out a promiscuous old man with a questionable p had invited her precious son to supper.
Fawn would’ve shown up on the spot just to teach him a lesson. That was exactly why Vesperal had brought up his mother instead of his father.
Dominic’s father would’ve needed to maintain peace for the sake of business. But his mother was different–she’d point a gun at Jordan if she had to.
As time passed, Jordan’s expression grew increasingly anxious.

“Now, now, it’s just supper! What’s the big deal? Let’s not disturb your mom. Come on, let’s go have some food together. Do it for me, won’t you?” he said, clearing his throat.
Dominic smiled and turned to Vespera. “What do you think?”
Most of the time, he appeared cold and distant. It was hard to get close to him once one saw his cold stare. Even when he smiled, it wasn’t genuine.
What a waste of those beautiful eyes.
But now, it was as if the fog had cleared. He smiled like a blooming flower.
Looking into his eyes, Vespera had to stop herself from falling into his trap. To snap out of it, she squeezed her palm and shook her head gently
“No. You really shouldn’t,” she said firmly.
Dominic put on a sad expression and turned his gaze to Jordan. “You heard her, right? I have no choice. She gets mad if I don’t listen to her.”
Vespera was stunned by his acting. His tone, his words, and his expression caught her off guard. She felt her heart skip a beat.
He had gone way too far with his acting. It cast a strange light on their relationship, and no amount of explanation could undo it.
At this moment, smoke was practically coming out of Jordan’s ears. He gritted his teeth and finally ran out of patience.
“Alright, fine!” he exclaimed. “No supper. Let’s just sit there and chat.”
Jordan then turned to Vespera. “Ms. Gildon, I’ve been nothing but patient. If you say another word, I’m going to get really mad.”
He had dropped all pretense. It wasn’t her place to push further, not when both he and Dominic were investors in the Bamboo Resort. Whether things turned ugly or not, the choice
wasn’t hers to make.
Vespera glanced at Dominic.
“Since Mr. Al Ige looks like he’s about to cry, I’ll just sit there and keep him company,” Dominic said, sounding pleased.
Jordan cursed at him silently. The man mocked him every chance he got.
“Alright,” Vespera replied with a nod and stepped aside.
She wasn’t sure if she was imagining it, but Dominic looked delighted. He didn’t seem the least bit worried about Jordan pulling a trick.
Then again, Dominic Reid was anything but careless.
