Everyone except Kelly had a low drinks, their faces flushed. It was clear they were all a little lipsy. No one cool remember who started it, but they began venting about their exes.
Some laughed so hard they could barely breathe, while others had tears waiting to Tall. Some of the stories were so wild that Suzette couldn’t stop laughing
She pare koly, the only one still sober, a little nudge. “What about you, Kelly
Hell’s expression went blank for a moment. A flood of memories hit her, and she wasn’t sure where to start
It had been awhile, so talking about Hugh didn’t hurt as much anymore. But looking at these young women, still in college and only a few years younger than her, left her at a loss
for words
The room tel quiet
suzette picked up on it immediately and quickly changed the subject to avoid making Kelly uncomfortable
After everyone left, Suzette, now a bit more sober, approached Kelly to apologize. “I’m sorry, Kelly, I had way too much to drink and wasn’t thinking straight”
Of course, Kelly wasn’t upset with her. Seeing how guilty Suzette looked, Kelly smiled at her, stroked her head, and told her to get some rest.
After cleaning up, Kelly took a shower and went to bed. She opened the WhatsApp account she’d set up before coming to Atheland. She had only shared it with one friend and hadn’t told anyone else where she was or how to reach her.

“He’s been drinking like crazy lately. Word is, he drank so much two days ago that his stomach tore open, and he landed in the ICU.The doctors keep telling him to stop, but he’s not listening. Honestly, he’s lucky he didn’t drink himself to death, though I wouldn’t feel bad if he did”
The insults about Hugh kept rolling in, but Kelly felt nothing as she read them. They didn’t even concern her anymore.
She yanked the curtains aside. Outside, the sky was a brilliant blue, clear and sparkling like a sapphire. The sun poured in, warming everything and chasing away the last bit of the
“Kelly, I’m off to class!” Suzette’s upbeat voice came from the other side of the door
Kelly grinned and called back, telling her to be careful on the way.
Then, she turned on her phone, a sense of relet in her voice as she recorded a message. “You can stop keeping me posted about Hugh now.” And just like that, the final hint of surrealness clinging to her faded away.
