Chapter 13
Devlin staggered over and pulled her into his arms.
“Please don’t leave me. I beg you…”
“Devlin, how could I ever leave you?”
Roy’s voice hit him like a bucket of cold water.
“Auntie said you’ve been locked in this room, not coming out. I’ve been so worried… Ah!”
Before she could finish her sentence, Devlin grabbed her by the neck, his murderous eyes as if they could peel her skin and strip her of her muscles.
“How dare you come here!”
“Did He Jennifer find out? Did you tell her anything?”
Devlin’s mother burst in and desperately tried to pull him away.
“Let go,
she’s still carrying your child!”
She couldn’t pull him off. Devlin’s mother was going frantic.
“Even if you kill her, will Jennifer come back?”
Those words drained all strength from Devlin. He released his grip.
Roy, terrified, collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.
“Devlin, please believe me, I didn’t…”
“I’ve always known that your heart belongs only to Jennifer. I’m just happy I could give you a child. I never dared to wish for anything more.”
“Give me your phone.”
Roy’s tears streamed down her face as she handed him the phone without a hint of panic. Before coming here, she had deleted Jennifer’s number, and of course, there were no chat records left.
“I never thought about competing with Jennifer for anything. 1…”
“Get out.”
Devlin’s mother couldn’t bear it anymore.
“Jennifer left on her own. You’ve lost your mind, but Roy is not worse than her. She’s been living with me for this time. When you’ve figured things out, give her a proper wedding. The child can’t be born a bastard.”
Chap 13
“Get out of here, don’t dirty our home.”
Devlin’s mother was furious, pulling Roy toward the door.
Roy glanced back. Devlin had returned to sit at the table, staring at the ultrasound report and the storage box.
She gave a slight twitch of her lips..
Five years of marriage–two deaths and one injury. The debt Devlin owed was a blood debt, and he was destined to never have Jennifer back.
And with the support of Devlin’s mother, the role of “wife” would sooner or later fall to her.
The villa became quiet again.
Devlin mechanically took out his phone and sent yet another message to Jennifer.
“Sis, could you come back just once? I can’t live without you. Please pity me.”
Another message, swallowed by the abyss, pushed him to his breaking point. “Jennifer, 1 know I was wrong. The only person I love is you.”
“I don’t want the child anymore. I only want you.”
“I beg you, as long as you don’t leave me, hit me, curse me, anything…”
He said it over and over again.
In the end, only despair and sobs remained.
But the person he wanted to apologize to couldn’t hear a single word.
Two more days passed, and there was still no word from Jennifer.
But Devlin continued to receive messages from Roy.
“Devlin, Auntie has been taking good care of me and the baby. Don’t worry about us.
“My baby and I miss you so much. What do you think we should name our baby?””
“I know you chose me because I look like Jennifer. Since she’s gone, you can treat me as her from now on. I don’t mind.”
There was also a message from Devlin’s mother.
“I’m setting up a few tables at home tonight, introducing Roy to the relatives. If you’ve figured things out, come over”
Devlin’s eyes turned bloodshot.
Chap 12
He would never let anyone replace Jennifer, not even a substitute.
Devlin carefully smoothed out the ultrasound report and placed it down before driving to the his household.
“Devlin, I knew you’d come to your senses.
As soon as he entered the door, Devlin’s mother greeted him with excitement. “When the relatives arrive, you and Roy can welcome them together.”
Devlin smiled faintly and handed her the phone.
“Mom, I brought you a gift.”
Devlin’s mother lowered her gaze.
Just one glance, and it sent her spiraling into the abyss.
