Chapter 6 Explain?

Before Dunstan could respond, Lu

looked shocked. Mr.

Beaumont, do you even realize what you’re asking?”

Nicholas met Dunstan’s eyes. He spoke slowly and carefully, I have only one daughter. I wouldn’t dare ask this unless it was absolutely necessary”

Sir Ainsworth, please, think about how I saved Charles twentyseven years ago, grant this humble request of mine!”

The room went silent at his words

Charles Ainsworth was Theodore’s father

Twentyseven years ago, during a tragic car accident, Nicholas had risked his life to pull Charles from the wreck. Though Charles didn’t survive, Nicholas made sure his remains were intact

After a long pause, Dunstan finally stood up, leaning on his cane. Alright.”

Nicholaseyes were full of gratitude

Just then, there was a knock at the door

Two police officers in uniform showed up, and one of them said, Sir Ainsworth, sorry to interrupt. Nicholas, it’s time. Let’s go!”

Nicholas nodded and struggled to stand up

With a click, the officer put handcuffs on Nicholaswrists, staying silent as they led him away

Audrey’s face went pale, and she instinctively tried to follow, but Lucas held her wrist tightly. Ms. Beaumont, stay.”

Confused, she pulled away from his grip and ran outside, just in time to see Nicholas being taken to a police car

Daddy!”

Suddenly, Audrey woke up with a start, her heart pounding

The morning light came through the curtains, casting soft shadows around the room

Her head was throbbing, and she felt like she hadn’t fully shaken off the dream

Sitting up, Audrey held her head, letting the blanket fall to the floor

As she looked at her clothes, memories started to come back

Hazel came back from grocery shopping and saw Audrey sitting there. She hurried over, looking worried. Mrs. Ainsworth, you’re awake! How are you feeling?”

Hazel touched Audrey’s forehead with the back of her hand

Thank goodness, the fever’s gone down.”

WaterAudrey’s voice was hoarse and raspy

Hazel quickly poured a glass of v and gave it to her. Mrs. Ainsworth, I was scared! You were burning up last night, and since you wouldn’t let me call a doctor, I had to wipe you down with saline until the fever finally broke around midnight.”

Audrey drank half the glass in one go, feeling relief in her throat. I’m sorry for worrying you.”

Hazel sighed with relief. As long as you’re okay. Otherwise Mr. Ainsworth might get mad.”

Audrey looked down and went quiet

She thought to herself, Theodore wouldn’t care if I were sick. In fact, if I were to die, it might just give him a reason to rush to marry Ava.”

Mrs. Ainsworth, did Mr. Ainsworth give you a call?Hazel asked

Audrey looked up, confused

Hazel went on, Last night, your fever was really high, but you wouldn’t let me call the doctor.”

So I ended up trying to call Mr. Ainsworth a few times, but he didn’t answer.”

Audrey pressed her lips together, staying silent

Hazel’s eyes widened as she realized she shouldn’t have said that. Hazel had been assigned to care for Theodore and Audrey after their wedding, so she knew bout their relationship

Realizing she might have messed up, Hazel cleared her throat. Maybe Mr. Ainsworth was just too busy last night”

Audrey gently cut her off, Hazel, I’m okay. You’ve been up all night looking after me. You should take the day off and rest.”

But Mrs. Ainsworth, you just got better! What if your fever comes back? I’m fine, really. Let me stay and look after you.”

Audrey shook her head. No, I can handle it. Just go.”

Hazel saw that Audrey was firm, and after a long night of caring for her, Hazel was feeling tired too. With a reluctant nod, she agreed, promising to come back after making some soup

Once Hazel left Kingwood Villa, Audrey sat on the couch for a bit, collecting her thoughts. Remembering the soup Hazel had made, she got up to check on it

Suddenly, the front door creaked open

It was Theodore
