“I’m pregnant with Theodore’s child, an Ainsworth heir!”
Audrey looked at her, her tone flat. “So what?”
Ava froze.
“Impossible!
How could she be so calm? She loves Theodore so much. Shouldn’t she be breaking down or losing control?!
She’s faking it!
She must be pretending!”

Ava’s face darkened as she gritted her teeth. “You’re only acting so smug because Sir Ainsworth is protecting you. But Theodore doesn’t love you. Once I have this baby, Sir Ainsworth won’t let the Ainsworth bloodline drift away. Whether you like it or not, – you’ll be cast out by then, and I’ll have Theodore’s child!”
Audrey let out a cold laugh..
“What are you laughing at?!”
Audrey stepped closer. “Because you’re naive and ridiculous.”
Ava’s face darkened, ready to snap back. She suddenly felt the overwhelming pressure radiating from Audrey. Her heart nearly stopped, and she instinctively stepped back.

“Ava, Sir Ainsworth won’t let his family’s bloodline drift away. What makes you think that you will, too, once your child enters the family?” Audrey looked down at Ava, her gaze dropping to Ava’s stomach. “The Rosewood family has raised you for years. Haven’t you heard enough stories about mothers being left behind while the child stays?”
Ava’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she blurted out, “No way! Theodore would never allow that!”
“And what if he doesn’t agree? Didn’t you just say it yourself? Sir Ainsworth is backing me. As long as Sir Ainsworth is alive, I’ll stay in my position as Mrs. Ainsworth. And you? You’ll remain nothing more than a mistress. Your child will be nothing but an illegitimate one who is looked down on, with no right to inherit the Ainsworth family fortune!”
With that, Audrey walked past her and headed straight for the
exit.
Ava trembled with rage, a bitter taste rising in her throat.
She spun around and screamed at Audrey’s retreating figure, “Audrey! You won’t be the Beaumont heiress for long! As soon as Nicholas dies, you and your brother will be nothing but strays! By then, Sir Ainsworth won’t stand by your side!
“Audrey, I’ll never lose to you! I didn’t before, and I won’t now
or ever!”
Audrey paused for a moment, then continued walking out of the
café.

“So, ladies, how was it? Did any of them catch your eye?” the real estate agent asked as they stepped out of the last building.
Violet glanced at Audrey, noticing her lack of energy, and nudged her with her elbow. “Audrey, they’re asking you.”
Audrey snapped out of it, looking dazed.
“We probably saw too many this morning and got overwhelmed. How about we discuss it and get back to you?” Violet said, seeing Audrey’s state, and spoke to the agent.
The agent smiled and nodded without saying anything.
Violet checked the time and led Audrey toward the parking lot, then pushed her into the passenger seat.
“We’re done looking?” Audrey asked, finally noticing, as she turned to Violet.
“You’re not focused at all. Looking at more won’t help.”
Hearing this, Audrey realized she had been distracted. She pressed her lips together. “Sorry, Violet.”
“Audrey, what’s wrong? Don’t tell me nothing’s up. You’ve got dark circles like a panda. If I threw you into a zoo, no one would even question it.”
“It’s not that bad!” Audrey laughed at Violet’s joke and flipped down the mirror above the passenger seat. After looking at herself, she realized Violet might not be exa
ng that much.

She touched the dark circles under her eyes and said, “Didn’t I tell you I took on that Ains Group project? I’ve been reviewing the materials non–stop these past few days, maybe overdoing it a bit. But it’s wrapped up for now. Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Violet knew how hard Audrey worked, so she didn’t press further.
“By the way, the registration review for that competition is almost over, right? You got through, didn’t you?” Violet asked.
Audrey’s eyes darkened.
Violet, ever perceptive, noticed the fleeting emotion in Audrey’s eyes and frowned. “What’s wrong?”
Audrey pushed the mirror back up and told Violet about her meeting with Ava a few days ago.
There was a loud bang.
