Inside the car, Maxwell glanced at Audrey’s shrinking figure in the rearview mirror, a mix of emotions on his face.
After a moment, he spoke up, “Mr. Ainsworth, it seems Mrs. Ainsworth isn’t feeling well.”
Theodore gave him a cold stare.
A chill ran down Maxwell’s spine, and he quickly said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Ainsworth.”
Theodore glanced back at the road, but in the rearview mirror, he saw Audrey slumped over. A thought popped into his head, and he asked, “Is it supposed to rain tonight?”
“Yeah, the forecast says it’s gonna pour,” Maxwell answered.
Theodore’s face turned serious. “Turn around. Head…”
Before he could finish, his phone buzzed with a new message on the screen.
[Theodore, let’s get a divorce.]
Theodore chuckled to himself, “Divorce? Really, Audrey? Is this your new game?”

It wasn’t until late at night that she finally made it out of the gated community, using the last bit of her phone’s battery to call a cab back to Kingwood Villa.
“Mrs. Ainsworth!” A servant rushed out.
Seeing Audrey soaked and about to collapse, Hazel quickly stepped forward to help her. But as soon as Hazel touched Audrey’s arm, she felt the alarming heat from Audrey’s skin.
“Mrs. Ainsworth, you’re burning up!” Hazel exclaimed, helping her to the sofa. She hurried to pour a glass of water and set it in front of her. “I’ll call the doctor right away!”
Audrey weakly stopped Hazel, her voice barely above a whisper. “No need for that. I think there are some fever reducers in the
house. Just grab those for me.”
“Mrs. Ainsworth…” Hazel hesitated, worry written all over her face, but Audrey was already too exhausted, slumping onto the sofa.
Seeing her like that, Hazel had no choice but to turn and get the medicine.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she looked at that beloved face. But the man in the car seemed oblivious to her cries, turning to the girl beside him. “Did you remember what I told you, Audrey?”
That girl was her from two years ago!
“Dad…” Audrey reached out, trying to touch Nicholas Beaumont’s face, but her hand met nothing but air.
“I remember. No matter what happens, no matter what you say, I won’t speak. I’ll just listen. You’ve said that so many times!”
Nicholas smiled and playfully messed up her hair. He said, “Audrey, everything I do is for you.”
The girl snuggled up to her dad, resting her head on his shoulder. “I know. The two men who love me most in this world are you and my brother.”
As they chatted, the car smoothly rolled into a charming, old–fashioned garden–style estate.

Nicholas grabbed her hand, speaking firmly. “Audrey, did you forget what I said? Stay back and listen!”
Tears filled the girl’s eyes as she hesitated, but under Nicholas‘ calming gaze, she finally let go and turned to the elderly man sitting behind a big desk.
“Mr. Beaumont, please get up. Whatever you need, Sir Ainsworth will surely help! You don’t have to do this!” The man next to the elder stepped forward, bending down to help Nicholas.
Nicholas stayed still. “Sir Ainsworth…”
“Nicholas, you know I’ve always thought of you like a son. But you’ve made some mistakes, and you need to face the consequences with courage,” Dunstan said, rubbing the top of his cane with a heavy heart.
Nicholas said, “I understand. When you mess up, you have to own it. I know I’ve let you down and shouldn’t come to you! But today, I’m not here for myself. I’m here for my daughter, Audrey.”
“Sir Ainsworth, please–let Theodore marry Audrey!”
