Chapter 47 Not alone?
Ains Group, President’s Office.
Maxwell knocked on the door and entered, glancing at Theodore, who was sitting behind his large desk with his eyes closed, resting. “Mr. Ainsworth, I checked into it. Ms. Beaumont went to the hospital for menstrual cramps,” he reported.
Theodore opened his eyes slightly, a cold look in them. “Menstrual cramps?”
Since leaving the hospital, his inexplicable irritability hadn’t subsided at all.
Especially after dropping Ava off, he couldn’t get the image of Audrey’s expression at the hospital out of his mind. So, he had sent Maxwell back to the hospital to find out what that woman
was up to!
But he hadn’t expected to learn that she went to the hospital. because of cramps.
So, she wasn’t lying. She wasn’t stalking him.
“Yes,” Maxwell continued. “I spoke to Hazel, and she said Ms. Beaumont didn’t look well this morning. She must have gone to the hospital because she couldn’t stand the pain all night.”
Theodore frowned. Logically, he should have felt relieved to know she wasn’t chasing after him like before, but instead, a deeper sense of losing control gnawed at him.

“What’s the problem?” Theodore’s eyes narrowed. “Didn’t I ask you to find her and send her back? Is she throwing a tantrum again?”
Of course. How could someone like her stay calm? She must have found out that he sent Maxwell to bring her back, and after getting a taste of some attention, she was back to her old ways, flaunting her status as Mrs. Ainsworth!
Without waiting for Maxwell’s response, Theodore had already made up his mind and instructed, “Have someone pick out a few new handbags and send them to Kingwood Villa. Tell her that if she still wants to be Mrs. Ainsworth, she needs to behave! No more of her antics!”
“Mr. Ainsworth, Ms. Beaumont… isn’t in a bad mood,” Maxwell began cautiously. He pulled out his phone, displayed some photos on the large desk, and continued, “When I found Ms. Beaumont, I was about to send her back, but I saw she wasn’t alone and decided not to interrupt.”
Not alone?
When Theodore saw her, she had been by herself.
Theodore’s gaze dropped to the screen of Maxwell’s phone.
In the photo, Audrey was lying on a single hospital bed, smiling at the man beside her. The man, wearing a white coat, leaned over and gently brushed her hair back, his eyes filled with a soft, affectionate smile.

If that woman weren’t his wife, Theodore might have praised them for looking like the perfect match.

“Mr. Ainsworth, this man is Ryan, the only son of Collins Industries. He returned from abroad a month ago and wast hired by the First Hospital as an associate chief of cardiac surgery.” Maxwell could feel the tension in the room and paused briefly before continuing. “Ms. Beaumont has known him since childhood. They must have run into each other by chance at the hospital.”
“Childhood sweethearts, a chance encounter?”
Maxwell’s heart sank. Theodore’s gaze was cold and piercing.
“The First Hospital has a daily flow of 50,000 people and covers. 500 acres. There are three or four buildings between the cardiac surgery department and the infusion hall. Maxwell, what do you think the chances are of a ‘chance encounter‘ like that?”
Maxwell’s forehead was damp with cold sweat. He couldn’t answer. “Mr. Ainsworth…”
“Get out.”
Maxwell didn’t dare linger and left the office
immediately.
As the door was closing, there was a sudden crash behind him!
The phone had been smashed to the ground, shattering into
pieces.

“Are you sure you don’t need me to take you home?” Ryan asked.

Audrey took the bag of medicine from him and joked with a smile, “I wouldn’t dare trouble a busy man like you. Look, you’ve been out for less than five minutes and your phone has already rung twice.”
Just as she finished speaking, the phone rang again.
Ryan glanced at the caller ID–it was his supervisor. “Alright,” he said with a sigh, “Be careful on your way back. Cramps can be serious or mild, but you should still get some rest. I’ll visit the Beaumonts in a few days. Let’s have dinner when I return?”
Audrey nodded in agreement and got into the back seat of a taxi.
“Text me when you get home.”
“Ryan, I’m not a child anymore.”
“You’ll always be a child to me.” Ryan pinched her cheek playfully. When she was about to protest, he let go, closed the car door, and stood straight. “Alright, get home safely.”
He gave the driver her address and watched as the taxi slowly pulled away. Only after it disappeared from sight did he turn and head back toward the cardiac surgery building.
Audrey glanced in the rearview mirror, noticing Ryan had
vanished.
“Driver, please turn left at the traffic light ahead,” she instructed.

She hadn’t planned on returning to Kingwood Villa to rest, but she didn’t want Ryan to worry or go back and tell Caleb. So, she had told a little white lic.
Penelope had announced yesterday that she would be handling the Ains Group project. Many colleagues were unhappy about it and were waiting for her to make a mistake.
So, she’d only taken half a day off and now had to prepare materials for the project.
She knew she wasn’t the most qualified, but since she had accepted the assignment, she was determined to do it well. Besides, she hoped to grow through the experience.
Only this way, when her father returned, could she better help him and her brother carry their burdens.
Just as she was lost in thought, a text message suddenly popped up on her phone…
