Audrey stepped out of the elevator, lost in thought, not noticing. the sign in front of her. She was about to walk straight into it.
“Careful!”
A large, warm hand grabbed her arm and pulled her aside.
Audrey was startled. As she turned her head, she found herself staring into a pair of deep, clear eyes. Her mind seemed to jolt.
She felt like she’d seen those eyes before.
She glanced down at the work badge on the man’s chest, and when she saw the name, something clicked in her memory. Her pupils widened with disbelief as she looked at him.
“You…”
“Stay still,” Ryan reminded her with a smile before letting her go and taking off his mask. “I’m surprised you recognized me.”
“Ryan! Aren’t you… didn’t you move to Mazaida? When did you come back? And now that you’re back, are your father and the others back too? Have you met my brother? He must be thrilled to know you’re back…”
Ryan raised an eyebrow, gently placing a hand on her head with a playful sigh. “So many questions! Which one should I answer

Audrey realized she was getting a bit too excited and gave him an embarrassed smile.
The Collins and Beaumont families had been friends since their grandfathers‘ time, so Ryan naturally became close friends with Caleb. They spent a lot of time together, and whenever Ryan visited the Beaumont family, he would always lease young Audrey, getting her to call him “brother.”
When Audrey was ten, the Collins family’s business venture failed, and they had to move abroad to rebuild. Gradually, the two families lost contact. Later, when Nicholas ran into trouble and was imprisoned, the Beaumont family fell on hard times. and completely lost touch with the Collins family.
In Audrey’s heart, Ryan had always been like a second brother.
“I came back mainly for a project with my supervisor’s team,” Ryan explained, rubbing her head gently. “I’ll be returning. once the research is done, so my parents didn’t come back with me. I’ve only been back for a month, but I’ve been tied up with research and surgeries. I haven’t had time to reach out to your brother yet. I was planning to visit the Beaumonts in a few days, but I didn’t expect to run into you again today.”
“Run into me again?” she asked.
Ryan nodded, putting his hands in the pockets of his white coat. “Last Monday morning, at the elevator in the Internal Medicine. Department.”
A flash of recognition crossed Audrey’s face. “I bumped into someone then… was that you?”

“I’m sorry,” she apologized quickly. “I really didn’t know it was you.” As she spoke, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her lower abdomen. She winced and took a deep breath.
“What’s wrong? Where does it hurt?”
“I…” Audrey pressed a hand to her lower abdomen, her face pale. “Cramps…”
Within moments, a thin layer of cold sweat formed on her forehead from the pain.
Suddenly, she felt herself being lifted. With a serious expression, Ryan scooped her up and quickly headed for the infusion room.
Half an hour later.
“Dr. Collins, this is the medication for Ms. Beaumont,” the young nurse at the pharmacy said, handing him a package.
Ryan glanced at the medicine box in the bag, and his brow furrowed.
He returned to the infusion room, where Audrey had already received a painkiller injection and was lying on a hospital bed, waiting for it to take effect.
Her face was pale, her eyes closed, and her eyelashes trembled slightly.
Hearing footsteps, she opened her eyes. “Ryan.”

gave you is a slow–release injection, so it will take some time to work. You’ll feel better soon. I picked up your medication for
you.”
He placed the bag of medicine beside her pillow.
Audrey glanced at the prescription on top of the bag, her expression dimming. Ryan’s voice broke through her thoughts. “Does he know about your condition?”
“You…” Audrey was about to ask how he knew about her marriage, but she quickly reconsidered. Although the Collins. family had been overseas for years, they still had connections. in the country. It wouldn’t have been hard for them to find out
about the Beaumonts‘ current situation.
She immediately changed the subject. “Ryan, can you keep this a secret for me?”
Ryan frowned, clearly disapproving, but before he could
respond, she continued, “Theodore and I will be divorcing soon. Even if he knew, it wouldn’t change anything. It would only make me look more like a fool.”
She added softly, “Ryan, I don’t want my brother or dad to
worry.”
Ryan looked at her pale, almost translucent face, and his heart ached. His throat tightened, and after a long moment, he finally agreed, “Alright.”
Audrey smiled faintly. “Thank you, Ryan.”
Ryan gently brushed her hair back, a complicated mix of

Audrey nodded. Maybe it was the painkiller starting to work, or maybe it was the exhaustion from a sleepless night, but she soon drifted off.
Ryan sat beside her, looking at her intently. Unable to help himself, he reached out, gently tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, then held her hand and whispered, “Audrey, I regret it.”
“If I had known you were so unhappy, I should have come back and taken you away two years ago.”
At that moment, at the entrance to the infusion room, there was a sudden “click“-the sound of a photo being taken.
