The next day, at the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology clinic.
“The main reason you’re experiencing severe menstrual cramps this time is that you didn’t rest and recuperate properly after your previous miscarriage,” the doctor said. “I’ve prescribed a painkiller injection and some medication to help your body recover. You should take them for a while.”
Audrey’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. Not long after she returned from Misty Villa last night, her period had started. At first, it was only a little painful, and she thought it would pass after taking some painkillers. But the medicine didn’t work. The pain persisted until morning, and she almost couldn’t get out of bed.
With no other option, she had to take half a day off to find out what was going on.
The doctor handed her a diagnosis sheet and asked, “Also, do you and your husband plan to have children?”
Audrey was stunned.
The doctor continued, “The examination shows that the lining. of your uterus is quite thin. Combined with your previous miscarriage, it will be much harder for you to get pregnant than the average person. It’s very likely…”
Audrey placed her hand on her abdomen, her fingers gently touching. “You mean, I may never be able to have my own child again, right?”

Audrey left the clinic in a daze, feeling as if an invisible hand was squeezing her heart tightly.
“Baby, are you angry at me for not protecting you? Is that why you don’t want to come back to me?” she thought.
“Audrey!”
A deep and sharp voice came out of nowhere, snapping Audrey back to reality. She turned around and saw Theodore, still wearing the same suit from the previous night.
So he spent the night at the hospital after getting that phone call? Who was in the hospital? Ava?
“Why are you here?” Theodore narrowed his eyes, looking her up and down. “Are you following me?”
Feeling his questioning gaze, Audrey quickly hid the diagnosis sheet behind her back. “No,” she said.
But her reaction was too slow, and Theodore caught sight of her
hand.
“What’s that in your hand? Show me.”
Audrey’s fingers froze around the diagnosis sheet. She suddenly remembered what Theodore had said the previous night. Her first instinct was to hide it.

“It’s nothing…” Audrey replied, taking a half–step back. She thought if Theodore tried to snatch it from her, she would tear it
- up.
Theodore’s expression darkened instantly.
“Sure enough, this woman never tells the truth!” he thought..
She was being evasive; she must be hiding something! Theodore didn’t waste any more time. He reached out, ready to pull her toward him. He wanted to see how stubborn she could be!
“Theodore!”
Ava came out of the clinic and saw them. Her heart sank, but she quickly composed herself. She walked over, slipping her arm around Theodore’s naturally. “Do you know what the doctor just said? She said the baby is developing perfectly! Very healthy! So, we can both relax now.”
She placed her hand on her abdomen and looked at Audrey with an exaggerated expression of surprise. “Audrey, what are you doing here?”
Audrey didn’t say anything.
“Oh, Audrey, don’t misunderstand,” Ava stammered, pretending to be flustered. “I accidentally fell last night, and Theodore came because he was worried about me. We didn’t…”
“Nothing? No illicit relationship?” Audrey snapped sarcastically.

Theodore’s face darkened, and he called her name in a warning tone, “Audrey!”
Ava hesitated, looking lost. “No, Audrey, I never wanted to ruin
your event…”
Audrey sneered, “How naive! So, Ms. Rosewood has no family nearby and has no choice but to call a married man in the middle of the night? Then, they end up alone in a room‘ together? Ava, aren’t you tired of pretending like this?”
“Audrey! Haven’t you said enough?” Theodore scolded harshly.
So now she didn’t even have the right to speak? He just couldn’t stand seeing Ava suffer even a little bit of criticism?
“No, I haven’t. But there really isn’t anything more to say.”
Audrey clenched her fists, smirked, and glanced at both of them. The anger she’d been holding, like air in a punctured balloon, escaped all at once. She turned and walked toward the elevator without looking back.
Theodore frowned. Seeing the bitterness and sarcasm in her eyes, he felt a sudden tightness in his chest.
What did she mean by that look? How dare she?
She was the one who had followed him and done something wrong, yet she blamed him?
He stepped forward, ready to catch up with her and get to the bottom of things, but Ava suddenly twisted her ankle, cried out, “Ah!” and fell into his arms.

“I’m fine, it’s just…” Ava’s face turned pale. She shook her head and looked down at her ankle. “It hurts a bit, I don’t think I can
walk.”
Theodore’s eyes flickered. He looked in the direction Audrey had gone, but she was already out of sight. He glanced down at Ava, who was biting her lip in pain. After a moment’s hesitation, he bent down, picked her up, and carried her away.
Ava nestled in Theodore’s arms, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
She looked up and saw the sign for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. Her eyes darkened with thought, and she quickly sent a text message: [Please find out why Audrey was in the obstetrics and gynecology department.]
