Maxwell quickly called someone. He then turned to Theodore. and said, “Mr. Ainsworth, the family doctor is on the way. He’ll be with Ms. Rosewood soon.”
Ava’s panicked voice came through the phone. “What should I do? I’m so scared… Theodore, my baby…”
Theodore’s voice softened as he reassured her, “Ava, don’t worry. Trust me, you and the baby will be okay.”
Audrey listened, her heart sinking as she heard her usually indifferent husband speak so tenderly to another woman. Tears welled up in her eyes.
So he could be gentle. He just never showed that side to his wife.
She thought bitterly, “Theodore, if you knew I once carried your child and your indifference drove it away, would you regret it?”
Soon, the doctor’s hurried arrival could be heard on the other
end, mixed with Ava’s frantic sobs.
After a quick check, the doctor look Ava’s phone and said, “Mr. Ainsworth, don’t worry. Ms. Rosewood is experiencing slight bleeding due to stress. She just needs to rest.”
Theodore’s tense expression finally cased.

Maxwell hesitated before asking, “Mr. Ainsworth, since Ms. Rosewood is okay, do we still need to go there?”
“Pull over,” Theodore said in a low voice.
The car screeched to a stop on the winding mountain road.
Audrey, caught off guard, leaned forward and bumped her forehead against the back of the passenger seat.
“Get out!”
Still reeling from the pain, Audrey heard Theodore’s cold command slice through the air.
She pressed her palm against her abdomen, slowly straightening up and looking out the window.
The streetlights flickered weakly, casting dim glows that felt like dying embers, ready to be snuffed out at any moment. The surrounding forest loomed dark and silent, a vast void that felt like a monstrous beast with an insatiable hunger, evoking a primal fear.
Instinctively, Audrey tried to say, “Theodore, can you please just drop me off in the city?”
The winding road stretched on for nearly forty minutes, and they had barely covered a third of the distance. The signal was spotty at best, making it impossible to call for a ride. If she got out now, she’d have no choice but to walk back.
Given her current condition, even sitting was painful, let alone walking back, which could easily take everything out of Audrey.
But Theodore didn’t budge, cutting her off with an annoyed tone. “Audrey, don’t make me repeat myself!”
Audrey let out a small, self–mocking laugh.
She thought, “Audrey, how could you be so naive? Did you really think Theodore cared about you?
You heard everything on that call. All his kindness and patience were for Ava, while you got nothing but his coldness and disdain.”
“Maxwell, go pull her out!” Theodore’s voice was cold as ice.
“I can get out myself,” Audrey said, taking a deep breath before opening the door and stepping out of the car.
Before she could steady herself, the door slammed shut, and the Maybach sped off into the night like an arrow.
Audrey stood there, left behind, watching the car disappear into

She crouched down, holding her

ach, as the events of the past few days replayed in her mind like scenes from a movie.
The blood, the miscarriage, the headlines showing them together, Emma’s cruel words about her worthlessness, and Theodore’s cold humiliation.
It all felt like daggers stabbing her heart, twisting and tearing away, leaving her bleeding and broken.
Her belly hurt, her head throbbed, and her heart ached–every part of her was in pain.
With her eyes red and full of tears, Audrey whispered about the pain, unsure where it hurt most, struggling to breathe.
She stayed crouched like that for what felt like forever until she tasted blood in her mouth. With shaky hands, Audrey pulled out her phone, the screen cold against her skin, and typed a
message.
