Chapter 50
KRISTEL’S POV
Two days ago, she finally received a response from L&M Co., where she submitted her drafts. Kristel makes a lot of preparations. Today, she wear a lovely dress and slip into a four–inch shoe. After wearing the four–inch high heels, her height became six feet and three inches. Then she put on her beret and placed a beige cashmere coat around her shoulders.
Today is her interview with the director of the company. She looked forward to meeting her; thus, she put much effort into looking presentable in front of her boss.
The moment she entered the company entrance door, the employees and clients lounging in the lobby were mesmerized by her beauty.
Kristel smiled at them. With what she did, their hearts skipped a beat, and they felt their knees went weak.
‘Where did this angel come from?‘
“Is she a model in our company?”
“I’m not sure. Maybe she is, since the companies we cooperated with often sent their models to us to have their fittings or pictorials.”
“She’s so pretty. But I never saw her as a TV endorser or a model cover of any magazine.”
“Maybe she is an aspiring model.”
“You can be right.”
“Should we approach and greet her?”
“I think we shouldn’t. Who knows, maybe a big shot is backing her up. We don’t want to mess with someone!”
Believing Kristel is a new model, they choose to watch her and adore her from afar. As for her, she proceeded toward the Reception Area, and she was happy that everyone gave her an approving gaze.
In the past, she put more care into dressing other people, and less effort for herself. Now she has learned that lesson. She’ll ensure that Fiona can no longer look at her with disgust because of her plain get–up when she goes out.
“Hi!”
“Good morning. Welcome to L&M. May I help you?”
“I’m here to meet Miss Amanda Lewis.”
“Do you have an appointment with her?”
“Yes, I did. I’m here for my interview.”
“Oh. Perhaps you are Miss Kristel Pearson?”
“That’s right.”
“Hello, Miss Pearson. My name is Jamie. I was instructed to receive you and usher you to the Director’s Office. Please, follow me.”
Two days ago, her boss told them not to entertain other designer applicants but only one person.
Thus, the receptionist that entertained her was very polite. Kristel thought it was because she dressed up fashionably, wearing an expensive cashmere coat and a Hermes bag in her hand, which she would only choose an office suit and black heels if it were the past.
At the top floor of the L&M Co. building, the receptionist named Jamie Lane knocked on the director’s office. She entered the office after the person inside permitted her to come in. It didn’t take long before Jamie exited and invited her to go inside.
“Miss Pearson, Miss Lewis is now ready to meet you.”
“Thank you, Miss Lane.”
“Jamie… Just call me by my name,” Jamie waves her hand, flashing a smile while winking at her.
“Then, Jamie, thank you.”
“Good luck!” Jamie winked at her before she headed to the elevator.
Kristel breathed out with relief to be warmly welcomed. The company would have a great atmosphere if all the employees are as nice as Jamie, and she’s praying for that.
After she settle her heart pounding excitedly, Kristel knocked lightly before she pushed the door open and greeted the woman inside.
“Good morning, Miss Lewis.”
“Welcome, Miss Pearson. Come in.”
Kristel was welcomed by a beautiful middle–aged woman seated in a French accent chair. In her hand are printouts of the drafts she emailed to them.
“Please take a seat.” she gestured at the empty chair across her.
Kristel walk steadily, showing her confidence as she took the seat. “Thank you, Miss Lewis…”
“Amanda… Just call me by my name since we will be colleagues now.” Amanda finally look up and smiled at her.
“Do–do you mean I was accepted?” Kristel’s eyes widened dramatically. She felt overwhelmed. Thus, she stuttered.
Amanda nodded and confirmed, “Of course! Look at these awards you won. Whose company wouldn’t hire you? If I met you during your college years, I already offered you a job before you completed your course!”
Kristel was over the moon hearing that, but the sparks in her eyes almost faded when memories flashed in her mind.

Her exposure to society was less because she wasted her life admiring a man, which blinded her eventually.
Amanda noticed the changes in her expression. She lowered her gaze, reading particular personal information on Kristel’s portfolio.
“Kristel, your resume says you are divorced. I presumed you got married after college. You graduated with the highest recognition. But it says here that you just designed clothes, and you never had work experience in the one year since you graduated. Why you didn’t pursue your career?”
Kristel meets Amanda’s curious gaze. Since she is now her boss, she gathered the courage to open up to her.
The woman frowned after she heard her story that she couldn’t stop phrasing, “Men are men. I expect less from them! They are all cheaters and jerks!”
Kristel was surprised when Amanda showed displeasure toward men. She seems to harbor hatred for them.
Before she came here, she ran a quick research on the boss of L&M Co., and a friend who works in a broadcasting company told her that she was unmarried until
now.
“Amanda, thank you for accepting me. Actually, this is a consolation to myself after my failed marriage. Although, I am pregnant now. I promised you I will work hard, and my child would not be a hindrance to my work. Instead, he is my inspiration to do well.”
“Don’t think that way, Kristel. This child is a blessing for you and us, would you believe that? Recently, I proposed cooperation with a big company in our state. The day you emailed us your drafts, the company contacted us and said their President was ready to see our presentation. Right on time, Kristel. I want you to sign the contract today as I chose you to go to that company and make a presentation.”
“Me?” The surprise couldn’t paint on her face.
“Uh–huh. I am confident about you, Kristel. You are so talented. Too bad you only wasted the opportunity to become famous right after graduating college. I bet you are a known wedding gown designer by now if you didn’t hurry to get married. From what I’ve seen, your husband didn’t see your worth since he rekindled his old flame! He must be blind! Now he’ll regret he didn’t cherish you!”
Kristel smiled gratefully at Amanda. Her words comforted her.
At first, she was worried Amanda might criticize her failed marriage, and she’ll reject her work in the company because she was pregnant. But the longer she conversed with Amanda, the more she became comfortable and was moved when she told her she believed in her talent.
“My failed marriage is a lesson of how simple I look at the world. I easily fell for a handsome man and unthinkingly loved him for so long. I’m happy that I was finally awakened from my foolishness that everything I dreamed of was just a fairy tale. Even so, I would not stop designing wedding dresses and making other girls‘ dreams come true by wearing their dream wedding gowns.”
“That’s how a professional designer thinks, Kristel. You don’t need to shut your eyes to the bigger picture in this world. I hate men for breaking many girls‘ hearts. But look at me. I designed stunning suits for them, and anyone who wore my clothes became even more handsome. The point here, Kristel, is to earn money.” “Meaning, let’s rob their pockets.”
Amanda broadened her smile. “I like you, Kristel. Your little head and my big ambition are alike.”
The two of them chuckled, and their lively conversation proceeded.
Amanda allowed her to get her things done before she started to work in the company the next day. After she signed the contract, she immediately texted Leila that she finally had a promising job.
“Oh, my gosh! Congratulations Kristel! When did I ever doubt your talent? You were the only one who wasted your skill for that man!”
Kristel was stunned. Leila and Amanda actually had the same reaction toward Galvin. Perhaps she was indeed the blind one here. Everyone she knew thought the
same.
At this point in her life, she’s grateful that she is no longer tied to that loveless marriage. Now she can pursue her passion and make a name. With this, she had a big chance of winning full custody.
“Kristel, let’s have brunch with Noah to celebrate!” Leila sounded in the other line that pulled Kristel to the present. Hearing the invitation she agreed, but she had another plan for that day.
“That’s a great idea, Leila. But let’s do that some other time. I want to tell my parents the good news first and perhaps the bad news as well.”
Leila is sensible. She understood what Kristel meant to say.
“You’re right, Kristel. Your parents haven’t known yet that you are divorced now.”
“Hmm… I’ll keep in touch with you soon.”
After the call, Kristel hails a cab and gives her parent’s address to the driver. She has to tell them the truth
