Chapter 48
She wanted to separate ways with Galvin in peace. But given Fiona’s character, she discerned it was impossible.
Whereas Galvin also makes things difficult for her after he appears last night.
If things keep this way, she wouldn’t be bothered in the future. No matter what happens, from here on, other things or people shouldn’t matter to her anymore.
She must care about the child’s bright future in her belly, and she will take action by getting employed soon.
Determined to pave her way, Kristel got up from the sofa and went to the kitchen, fixing herself a breakfast. She was grateful that Noah had lent her some of his groceries.
While frying bacon, sunny–side eggs, and toasting some bread, she preheats a mug of fresh milk, then mixed vegetables and fruit salad.
After eating breakfast, she lounged on her recliner chair on the balcony, leisurely browsing the internet, hoping to find exciting news about the latest fashion trend.
Soon, her eyes glimmered when several wedding themes appeared on her screen. The sample wedding gowns were stunning, and she couldn’t stop admiring them.
Once upon a time, she always daydreamed that someday she would marry Galvin and design her own wedding gown.
Indeed, she married Galvin. It was a dream come true but only half of it because there was no wedding ceremony.
It was different from what she dreamed of before that they would hold their wedding ceremony in a garden attended by their relatives and friends, even the employees of the two companies.
However, what happened instead was that their wedding was more likely a formality of the union of the two families.
Whereas Galvin is only willing to marry her for the inheritance he can claim afterward. And to keep her mouth from exposing his main goals, he prepared a contract she signed before they registered their marriage.
Although she knew she was only a replacement and the marriage had an ending, she had given everything in the one year she was with Galvin.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough for a man like him…
“Kristel just got over it!”
She wiped the couple of tears that had escaped from her eyes. To distract herself from replaying those memories playing in slow motion past her sorrowful eyes, she opens a folder in her TAB PC and browses her old photos.
These pictures are from her college days when she enjoyed hanging out with her friends.
And amongst these photos, what she cherishes most are the ones taken when her friends wore the dresses she made for them. She took inspiration from them; thus, she made them outfits.
In the present, she still designs dresses for them, but she is no longer one to handmade them since she married Galvin a couple of months after she graduated.
The reason is that she took a medical course to gain knowledge to understand Galvin’s condition and handle his health with her own hands.
In other words, she put aside her passion for designing clothes for the sake of her first love.
Now that her foolishness in love is over, no one can stop her from doing what her heart really desires to do.
Remembering her passion, Kristel browsed the photos when her university held a design competition, and she won First Place.
In the photos, the innocent girl has a big smile, sparks in her bright eyes, and looks confident in her talent.
Sadly, this girl has failed to win her love’s heart. Even so, she received the trophy that nothing in this world could replace it.
Kristel touched her belly and gently stroked her hand into her not swollen abdomen yet.
She looked up and stared at her reflection in the glass wall of her apartment. What she saw was a worn–out woman.
Her hair was messy, and there were dark circles around her eyes.
She also lost several pounds after she married Galvin, which she was initially slender already. But now she looks unhealthy and thin.
Looking back, she was actually no match for Fiona regarding fashion. Although she is a clothing designer, it’s not her habit to wear trendy clothes during her marriage to Galvin.
Galvin must have often compared her to Fiona because she rarely puts makeup on her face, whereas that woman could not leave the house or show her face to the people without dolling herself up.
Fiona is always wearing delicate makeup and only sports high–end branded clothes. It must be one of many reasons that Galvin didn’t fall in love with her.
He must believe she could not be a fashion icon because she only dresses up plainly; he doesn’t feel pleased to bring her when he meets his friends or attends a banquet.
All this time, she was only his nominal wife, not a lover he would proudly show to the public. However, when it is Fiona, Galvin is very satisfied, whereas he could flaunt her to everyone because she only dresses sexily.
Kristel smiles bitterly at her reflection. She put down her PCTAB and took a shower.
She scanned her reflection in the mirror after she wore the halter white dress she designed.
The previous month, Galvin told her he would bring her to New York for his timely meeting with President Jones. She doesn’t want to embarrass Galvin. Hence, she made a few dresses that can not be dubbed plain or daring.
After applying light makeup on her face and red lipstick on her lips, Kristel photographed her reflection in the mirror and posted it on her social media.
A few minutes later, her classmates from Brooke City Academy and college friends began commenting on her photo.
Chapter 48
2/2
Since she set the comments as limited, most of her followers, especially outsiders, cannot comment.
However, it was like a reunion for her friends.
They praise how she’s still the goddess Kristel they met in middle school, while her college friends complimented her white dress, and even one of them commented.
It says: “God, Kristel! I like your dress! It can be perfect for a beach wedding! My family and future in–laws have debated whether I should get a royal wedding in a castle. But I only wanted a simple wedding, so I am looking for the perfect dress!”
After Kristel read the comment from Hannah, inspiration poured into her mind.
She picked up her TAB PC and drawing pen, then began sketching smoothly on the screen.
Kristel created several samples. After she polished what she drew, she scribbled her signature after the name of her drafts.
She named the best dress the First Heart.
She wrote down a short poem describing the dress as her first heart, and she is giving it a way to move forward.
After then, Kristel browsed the lists of design companies she had eyed to apply before, then emailed her drafts to one of the most famous design companies in the
city.
She was excited and looked forward to receiving a reply soon, even though she was still determining when they would respond to her. What she did was a bold attempt to enter this industry.
But she would only see a result if she did something. She must even dare to pursue her career if she wants to succeed.
Kristel stretched her body. Gladly, her day was productive. Kristel put down the pen and got out of her workplace.
She realized that it was evening already. She should have gone to the supermarket to buy groceries. She only ordered her lunch. Thus, she totally forgot that she needed to go shopping.
“Ah. The supermarket will close soon.”
When someone knocked on her door, Kristel debated whether to order her dinner or dine at the nearby restaurant.
“Could it be Galvin? Will he come to trouble me again?”
To have the answer to her question, Kristel browsed through her phone and checked who had come to her apartment. After recognizing the man on the doorstep, she hurried to the door and opened it with a smile.
“Hey!”
“Hi, Kristel.”
“What are you doing here? Have you just got off from work today?”
“Erm, I’m on the night shift, so I must clock in by midnight.”
“I see…….. Then, what can I do for you?” she asked. The lovely smile on her face remained, which delighted the man.
“Well, I’m guessing you haven’t had dinner yet, so I ordered some takeout.” The man, none other than Noah, lifted the food bags in both of his hands.
“Ah, you’re right on time! I’m actually famished.” Kristel opened the door wide and let Noah come in. “I lost time with my work. I forgot to go shopping.”
Noah got in and walked straight to the kitchen. Kristel tailed him, eager to check out what he had ordered for dinner. It was like Noah’s thoughtfulness about buying her a meal was typical between them.
“I’m actually waiting for you to ask me out… I mean, go and go grocery shopping together.”
Noah flashed a smile as he placed the food bags on the table. He didn’t wait for Kristel to get the plates. He invites himself to think as if this is his house.
Kristel stared at him amusedly, thinking, ‘What a smooth tongue!‘
She knew Noah was hinting at her. But like what she told Leila, she has no plan to start a new relationship.
After setting up the table, Kristel and Noah sat across from each other at the dining table. The latter was attentive to putting food on her plate. She thanks him.
“Kristel, you seemed to have forgotten it.”
“Hummed?” She was confused.
“We’ve agreed not to thank each other every time.”
“Ahh… Right! Well, the food is delicious. Thank you.”
“Your welcome, Kristel.”
Noah remained staring at her face. Kristel, who eats with relish, looked up. She could see that Noah seemed to have something to ask her.
“Is something in my face?”
“No…”
“Noah shook his head. He had something to ask her but was hesitant to share his thoughts.
“Spill it out…” Kristel encourages him by flashing a sweet smile.
“Well… The man last night. He is your ex–husband, right?”
“Hmm. He is, yes.” Kristel has nothing to hide since it has already spread the news.
“He stayed all night, and he just left in the morning. Are you still in love with him?”
Noah sure was observant. Kristel has forgotten that he is a policeman. And Noah’s question indeed made her lost in thought.
