“Wait! I’m the one who purchased them. It was only right that I pay for them.”
‘Is he serious about paying for them?‘ She wondered how much a police officer earns annually. But if Noah can attend Brooke Academy. The school required not only admitting smart kids but also wealth and connections, not to mention this pricey apartment. ‘Then his family must be well off too.‘
Kristel is not concerned about whether Noah can afford it. What worried her was that if he paid for her purchase, these people would conclude that they thought they were a couple who just moved in together.
Kristel let out a breath of relief when the delivery was done. She admired the potted plants nicely arranged on her balcony. She could tell they were professional in this aspect, as they were not only delivering the items to your doorsteps.
As she was satisfied, she gave them generous tips.
“It looks so much better than my suite,” Noah commented behind her.
She turned around with a smile, then snapped when she remembered something. “Oh. I forgot we were in the middle of preparing dinner.”
“Don’t worry. It’s done so that we can set the table now.”
“Well, let me do it.” Kristel strode to the kitchen and removed the plates from the cupboards and cutlery from the drawers on the kitchen island.
She didn’t mind paying too much for this apartment since the tableware was all grand. She would love to perform her hobby with them in table settings, and having Noah as a guest is not bad.
“Three plates…” Noah sounded displeased, and thankfully his voice was swallowed by the sound of the doorbell. It didn’t reach Kristel’s ears.
“That must be Leila.”
“Oh, your friend coming over?”
“Yes.” Kristel nodded without raising her head.
“Then allow me to open the door.”
“Okay, thanks…”
At the doorsteps…
The woman was surprised when the person who welcomed her was not Kristel. She looked around while muttering, “Am I lost? Did I go to the wrong door?”
“You’re not.”
“Huh?” Leila blinks, mesmerized by the man’s magnetic baritone voice. “Omg! Noah McCullin!”
Noah flashes a smile. “Did Kristel mention me to you?”
“Oh, that…” Leila stuttered when Kristel appeared behind Noah and threw her a meaningful gaze. She chuckles and explains immediately. “Well, haha. Kristel mentioned you handle the hit–and–run case of that sly… I mean Miss Fiona Grayson.”
Leila laughs nervously. She almost slips out to utter the nickname they gave Fiona.
Noah replied, “Ah… Yes, I did.”
“Hey, let’s eat before the broth soup gets cold,” Kristel announced. She doesn’t want to hear or mention that woman; she might lose her appetite.
“Right! I bought a cake and fine wine here!”
Leila raised the box in her hand. Noah was so attentive. He immediately took the box of cake and wine bottle from her hands, saying,
“Let me open the wine for this celebration.”
“Right! We are celebrating Kristel’s moving into a new home and her divorce tonight! Finally she…”
“Divorce?” Noah halted and turned around, staring at Kristel with such emotion that it disappeared in a flash.
Kristel wanted to pinch Leila’s waist from having a great mouth. She cast her a warning look, but her best friend had only ignored that and proceeded to the table.
“Wow! Indeed, this is a feast!”
A food lover, Leila was the first to take a seat. She pulled a chair for herself and took out her phone. She began taking pictures of the food, then posted them on her social media afterward with a caption:
TO NEW BEGINNINGS AND NEW FRIENDSHIPS! HAPPY DIVORCE, MY FRIEND KNEW SUITORS ARE WELCOME TO PURSUE!
As a surgeon, Leila spent more time reviewing the cases assigned to her, especially those that several hospitals across the country requested to perform a complex operation; thus, she was rare to post. But she had a lot of followers. Instantly, her post was stormed with hearts and comments, and most of them were asking who Kwas,
Meanwhile, a particular person saw the post and was now irritated.
“New beginnings and new friendship? She couldn’t wait to flaunt her freedom, huh?”
The man standing behind him is sweating profusely. ‘Our meetings with our major investors were a success. But now we’re back in the city, his breathing fire again!
Back in the apartment, the dinner went well…
Sipping on her glass, Leila toured the apartment and was impressed by its layout and interior designs. Compared to her apartment, it is expensive, too. However, she didn’t invest much in its appearance since she isn’t often staying home but travels across the country to perform or assist an operation in particular cases.

“Kristel…”
Leila went to the kitchen, and the scene astounded her. Kristel was washing the plates and cutleries while Noah put away the clean pots on the hangers. She faked a cough to get their attention, then spoke.
“You know what, Kristel? I’m thinking of setting up a blind date for you. But you can skip dating but get a new husband immediately.”
“What?” Kristel almost drops the gold–rim crystal wine glass in her hand. She glanced at Leila and shot her a shut–up warning look.
Leila smiled teasingly. “I just thought you don’t need to look farther when someone is nearby.”
‘Enough!‘ Kristel mouthed, but Leila did not stop.
“Your ex–husband is a cheater bastard. Isn’t it a perfect time to eradicate him from your life?”
Kristel isn’t sure whether to laugh or cry when her friend sounds like they must send an assassin to kill Galvin.
‘Just stop sharing your ideas!‘ Kristel screams internally. But knowing Leila, no one could stop her mouth once it started running.
“Well, then… I’ve been staying for a couple of hours. I have been the third wheel for a long time. I must disappear now.” Leila winked at Noah and gave Kristel a meaningful look, urging her to grab this opportunity to hook up with a handsome man.
Kristel is still crying on the inside; thus, she asks Leila to change the topic. “I thought you were staying overnight?”
Leila waves her hand, “Some other time. I have to go home and rest for my operation tomorrow.”
“I see. Then I’ll send you off.” Kristel would like to take this opportunity to pinch the woman in the elevator.
When Noah also bid farewell, he caught up with Leila, and Kristel, heading to the door.
“It must be a tiring day for Kristel. So I won’t linger around.” He told the two.
Leila smiled sheepishly. “I don’t think so.”
Kristel and Noah looked at each other and then fixed their eyes on Leila, confused.
“You were living next door. So you were lingering around Kristel every single day.” Leila said teasingly.
Kristel, on the other hand, was on her wits‘ end not to smack her dear friend while Noah laughed sexily, which both caused the two women’s hearts to skip a beat.
At the elevator, Kristel pinched Leila on the waist. The latter only keep giggling.
“I told you. You shouldn’t close your heart.”
Kristel leans on Leila’s shoulder, making the reply, “I don’t want to think about that right now.”
Leila is a typical teaser but is sincere in pairing Noah with Kristel. She was so serious that her best friend would move on immediately.
“You know…”
“Stop…”
“He is skilled…”
“Please stop…”
“I mentioned nothing, yet…”
The two of them giggled.
“Bye… Get some beauty sleep,” said Leila when they arrived at the apartment’s main lobby.
“I’ll definitely do that… Have a safe drive, okay?”
“Yep!” Leila answered as she walked to the exit door, lifting her right hand and waving in the air.
Kristel returned to her apartment after watching Leila’s car leave the complex.
But then… when she was about to input the code into the door, someone covered her mouth.
