Contract Marriage 3

Chapter 3

I walk out of the building and kiss my teeth while I’m at it. A complete waste of time and a f***g clown for making me make a fool of myself. My pride and my ego feel trampled upon
“Who the hell does he think he is First he lies about the job, then he doesn’t recognise me, then he gives me a
me a contract and looks at me as though I’m the insane one when I flare up and throw the papers at him for getting my hopes up about a job that didn’t exist in the first place.
When I almost hit my head against a pole, I realise what has me irked the most, is the fact that he doesn’t recognize me. If I remember correctly. I was the drunk one, not him.
“I swear, rich people are the worst. They think everyone and everything bows to them and they can just do whatever the hell they want.” I mutter beneath my breath and knock on Ella’s door, my next room neighboor. She’s nice and Candace seems to like her too.
“Hey, thanks for watching her for me.” She smiles at me and Candace walks out from behind her.
“Hey Baby!” She squeals into my arms and I lift her up.
“It’s not a problem. I should warn you though she looks around like someone else could be listening to us. Madam Tess was here looking for you earlier, she said the next time she will come, it’ll be with security.”
My brain freezes for a second and Candace holds my face with her tiny hands, as if realising something is wrong.
I swallow hard “oh, thanks for the heads up. I’ll figure something out.” She nods and goes back in, leaving me and my baby to
think about our next move.
“What am I going to do?” I walk into our room and sit against the door. I have no family to turn to, at least none that I know of
I travelled thousands of miles for a new start but nothing seems to be working for me. My eyes prick with tears as I realise I’m literally in front of a stumbling block with nowhere to turn to.
“Mama?” I sniffle and wipe my eyes and smile tearily at her. I hug her tight, basking in the solace her innocence brings. I don’t care what happens to me, but Candace? I care too much.
I’m about to find the last scrap of bread I’ve been managing for the past five days, it’s pretty stale but I have had nothing to eat all day when my phone chimes with a very loud tone.
It’s an email and I ignore it when I see it’s from the same account that posted the cleaning job.
“That’s a lot of nerve to still send me a message after all that.” Curiosity eats at me though and I open the email on a second thought, maybe it’s an apology for being an a**
The smile from my face drops when I see it’s the contract again in PDF and a plea to actually go through it this time, you have to be outright desperate to search for a wife on the internet considering how he’s currently the one of the world’s most eligible bachelor right now.
What really forces my a**down is the fact that it is signed “Aaron Scott.” I know an Aaron Scott, one of the biggest oil moguls in South America, owning his own law firm, amongst other things.
“Isn’t he like a gazillionaire?” I ask myself as I download the actual file. I do the next best thing and google him, not a lot comes uр
but it is obvious who he is, an insanely rich man.
I slept with Aaron Scott? How did Aaron and I end up at the same club in the first place? How did I even manage getting close enough to him at the bar? All I know is, it was the worst night of my life.

I would have thought it was just a case of same name and surname, but that apartment looked like it had been hewn by the gods themselves.
I’m reading the document when I come across numbers with multiple zeros – what is supposed to be my pay to be a pretend wife and the phone falls from my hand.
“What the f.?” I censor the word when Candace looks at me, her head c***d to the side. I swear she knows what I’m about to say and is teasing me about it.
She picks up my phone after a couple of tries and hands it to me I ruille her hair “Thanks love.”
That night, I lay awake, thinking how much of that money could change my life, our lives.
Mr Scott isn’t looking for love, nor an attachment, just an arm candy for 90 days. Why though?
“Why do rich people do what they do?” My mind whispers and realise there’s no obvious answer for it
My fist is half up against the door and I decide against it, even after having all night and one whole day to think about it.
“I can’t do this. This is dangerous, I don’t know this man. He could be a serial killer for all I know. It doesn’t take a lot to make someone like me disappear.” I’m muttering madly to myself and the door opens,
I stop in my tracks, my eyes widening slightly at the man before me. He looks different. The last time I was here, he had on a three piece for a sitting room meeting. Today, he is in slacks and a T-shirt and he looks.. surprised.
“How did you get up here?” I try to remember his receptionist’s name. “shalo, no shont no – Renee! Yes!” I feel proud of myself but his facial expression is blank, just like the granite it seems he and his house are hewn from.
“Renee wasn’t in her seat. So, I just came up here. The look on his face told me he didn’t appreciate the initiative.
“I’m sorry, I can go back down and wait for an appointment…” I point towards the elevator but he simply sighs and opens the door for me to come in.
“Why are you here?” I’m barely settled in a seat when he asks his question.
“I uh…” my mouth suddenly feels dry and I wipe my hands on my worn jeans I went over the contract.”
“Oh?” His brows hike up slightly and he steeples his fingers together on his thigh.
“Yeah. I would like to sign it. Now, those brows actually fire up past his hairline.
“When I didn’t hear from you, I assumed you weren’t interested. What changed your mind, besides the money obviously?” My face scrunches up in displeasure and I take a deep breath to calm myself.
“The money was enough. I offer him a saccharin smile and he hums in what sounds like disbelief.
“How many people have you offered this…” I gesture my hand everywhere, not knowing what to call it proposition?” His green eyes pierces into me and I squirm slightly in my seat. He’s good-looking but he has to be mental to have done this with many people and me senile to want to accept it.
“Not a lot,” he waves it aside and I have a feeling he’s lying, but he leans forward in his seat “you have read it and come to terms with everything stipulated in it? There’s a twinkle in his eyes and it scares me to know what is going on in his mind.
“Yes. A marriage with no love, no sex and no relationship after. You want the contract a secret between me and you, and an annulment after 90 days.” He smiles and I’m caught off guard momentarily. He seems impressed that I have summed up everything in two sentences.

“So, let’s get on with it then…” He grabs his pen and places it on the paper, I rush to grab his hand “not so fast.” He looks at
my hand around his arm and raises a brow at me in question.
I peel my hands off him and clear my throat.
“I have a proposition of my own.”
