I splash water from the running tap on my face.
I hold the sink and straighten up to stare at my reflection in the mirror. My brain is clear of any thought as I stare at my morning face.

I smile, “Day 2 Aurora…” I jab at the mirror, You have got this.
I close the door of the bathroom quietly so I don’t wake Candace. I change into casual clothes and leave the room.
I yawn and scratch my head as I walk into the living room. The house is quiet, it always it but it feels like only Candace and I
are here.
-get ready in the morning tomorrow, Sawyer will pick you up.
Aaron’s words from last night pop into my mind. He did not say what time but I guess I should start getting ready.
I notice something on the centre table, another envelope.
“Am I getting another unlimited card?” i giggle at the notion of having two unlimited credit cards when I maxed out mine barely two weeks ago.
I deflate at the thought of my credit card debt accruing, it’s one of the first things I will pay off once I get paid.
1 figure Aaron will not be helping me out with that. I imagine the look on his face if I tell him about my credit card debt, disbelief mixed with disgust.
I pick up the unsealed envelope and turn it so the content slips onto my hand. I smile, “it’s about time.”
It’s a keycard, I don’t have to ring the doorbell when I come back from outside.
I sit and examine the keycard like it is a rare artefact. I had lived in houses that used just keys.
I snap my fingers, “I am totally getting an apartment with a keycard.” I say and my voice reverberates through the silent living room.
After Candace and I finish getting dressed. We wait in the living room for Sawyer.
The doorbell rings about 30 minutes later. I walk to the door and glance at the camera on the wall beside the door, it’s Sawyer.
“Come on baby. I say to Candace and she walks toward me excitedly. I hold her hand and open the door.
Sawyer steps back and nods at me, “Good morning ma’am.”
“Morning Sawyer.”
“morin.” Candace says and giggles when Sawyer smiles at her. He leads the way out of the apartment building and opens the door of the back seat for Candace and I.
We settle in and Candace swings her legs excitedly in her car sea “What is making you so happy this morning Dace?” I ask amusedly
She points at the road in front of us and claps her hand. She really likes going out.
“Isn’t it too early to go shopping though? I thought you would come by, say, 11?”

Sawyer glances at me through the rearview mirror, “Your first appointment is by 9 ma’am.”
My eyebrows shoot up in surprise, “9! who goes shopping by 9?”
Sawyer smiles but doesn’t say anything. Sawyer parks the car in front of a fashion house and I squint my eyes at it.
They don’t look like they will have my style. i open the door before Sawyer can get out to open it for me.
I help Candace out of the car and turn to Sawyer who is now standing in front of us.
“I will be right here by the time you are done”
I nod, “Do you have any idea how long this is going to take?”
“As long as it takes you, but we still have quite a few places to visit. It’s one of the reasons your first appointment is so early.”
I remember when shopping was something I did leisurely now its another chore I have to accomplish, “Thanks Sawyer.” Candace waves at him and we walk into the store.
A woman walk
up to us immediately we come in, “Welcome Mrs. Scout.” she says warmly.
I try not to let the surprise show on my face, How did she know it was me?
She smiles, “Mr. Scott rented out the entire store for your appointment. You are our only client scheduled till past noon.” I guess I did not hide the surprise very well.
We rented out the entire store? It’s just shopping for clothes, it’s not like a drug operation for crying out loud.
“Are you okay ma’am?” she asks. My face has betrayed my thoughts again.
I quickly plaster on a polite smile, “Yes, sorry about that. I had a long night so I am not very clear-headed right now,”
She nods with an understanding expression, “Please come with me.” Nice save.
She glances at me over her shoulder as she leans the way into the store. “Mr. Scott told us about the little girl so we have made provisions for her. I hope she likes it,” she says as she stops by a corner of the store.
I turn to look at it and smile when I see the Mario toys in the comer. There is an iPad on a table with a chair tucked into it.
Candace lets go of my hand and runs to the corner. She turns to me, her face flushed in excitement, “Mama see!” she says holding up one of the Mario toys.
I go to her and help her up the chair. I turn on the iPad and she leans back in her seat as she watches cartoons with the Mario toy tightly clutched to her chest.
I walk back to the woman, “Thank you, she loves it.”
She chuckles, “I can see that.” she gestures with her hands toward the front, “Shall we?”
“Sure”
I was right, they don’t have my style.
I like to
pride myself on the fact that I have very good taste when it comes to clothes. Especially when I hadn’t hit rock bottom, but I have always had a sense of casual style.
The clothes here are far from casual. They all look like something a person can’t complain
would wear if they plan to hit the runway but I

Flotry.
I am Aaron Scott’s wife for now and I have to play the part. So, I smile at each set of clothes she brings out for me
I decide my Aurora Lightwood persona and pick outfits that an Aurora Scott would wear.
“That looks very beautiful on you Mrs. Scott. I quite like the style, it accentuates your figure well.” she says referring to a grey gown I have of
I check myself in front of the floor-length mirror and nod in approval.
“I noticed you have only brought out monotone colours. Is that all you have?”
“No ma’am but that’s what Mr. Scott said we should arrange. I may be changing my style but I am to letting my new
wardrobe lack colours.
“My husband is always dressed so dark…” I pout for effect, I can’t dress the same way. We need a burst of colours in the family, don’t you agree!”
“I understand ma’am.” she says and goes to bring out hangers of colourful outfits.
Though, they are still in the same sophisticated style, the shades of blue, purple and cream make it more bearable for me.
After we are done, I am saddled with heaps of shopping bags. Forget changing my wardrobe as Aurora Scott, these clothes will last me a lifetime.
Sawyer helps to carry the bags and put it in the trunk of the car. Ego back in to pick Candace, she squirms in my grip, “No!”
she cries
“Dace, we have to go.”
“No!” she pouts and looks at me with tearful eyes. She clutches the toy to her chest. “You want the toy?” I ask and she nods eagerly.
I will ger you a new one. This is not yours to keep, okay?”
“No”
“Come on Dace, I will get you another one.” it’s not like her to throw a tantrum, especially not in public.
“She can have this Mrs. Scott. We arranged it for her anyway.”
I glance at her over my shoulder, “Really?” I say with relief evident in my voice.
She smiles, “Yes, Mr. Scott paid for all our services already.”
I heave a sigh of relief, “Thank you.”
“You are welcome ma’am. And thank you for shopping with us, we hope to see you soon.” I doubt I will have any reason to come back here with all the shopping bags in the trunk but I nod
Candace happily walks to the car with her toy clutched to her chest. I get in the car and put her in her car seat.
“Dace we don’t do that” I coll.
She grins at me and waves her toy in my face like she is asserting her victory. I shake iny head at her and turn to Sawyer who just got in the car
“Where in now?
“A shoe store, it’s just down the street from here.”

Of course, what are clothes without the appropriate footwear?
We arrive at the store in no time and I get out of the car.
I stare at Candace debating on whether or not to bring her with me. She blinks innocently and stretches her hands towards
me. “Mama”
She says innocently like she did not almost turn a store upside down a few minutes ago.
“Aurora?” I turn to face
whoever called my name.
It’s Jules My old college mate that told me about Mikayla’s engagement, the person that was with me when I found out I was pregnant.
“Aurora Lightwood?”
“Jules?” I say and grin dramatically, “Jules hi!”
