Chapter 12
Jonathan scrutinized Chester’s face as he spoke. His gaze was sharp and probing.
He couldn’t reach Giselle, and neither could the Grants. That was why he’d decided to try his luck with Chester. Giselle had left with him yesterday, after all.
This had grated on Jonathan’s nerves. He couldn’t understand it–didn’t Giselle know that she needed to maintain boundaries? Even if they were already broken up, wasn’t she slapping him in the face by spending time with Chester? She knew he didn’t like his uncle.
Chester clearly sensed Jonathan’s hostility, but it didn’t bother him. He leaned back leisurely, his gaze calm as he faced the latter. “Do I need to report to you on who I spend time with and who I’m close to?”
Jonathan was no match for him, whether in terms of status or capabilities. The former clenched his fists, the veins in his forehead throbbing as he suppressed his anger. “She’s my fiancée, Uncle Chester.“–
“You two have already broken up,” Chester said calmly.
Jonathan felt like Chester’s purpose in life was to oppose him at every turn. He sneered and said, “Gigi and I have seven years between us, Uncle Chester. It’s not something that can be cast aside so easily.”
Chester looked up to meet Jonathan’s gaze. After a while, he said, “That didn’t stop you from fooling around with Charlotte Grant, did it?”
A deadly silence descended upon the room. Giselle secretly gave Chester a thumbs–up as she eavesdropped. One had to be blunt when talking to someone like Jonathan. Chester was Jonathan’s uncle for a reason!
Jonathan forced himself to stay calm again. “Charlotte and I are just friends. Besides, that’s my personal life, Uncle Chester. It has nothing to do with you.”
Chester appraised him. He was already 25 yet still so wild and unrestrained. He hadn’t inherited any of Jean’s good qualities.
Jonathan returned to their original topic of conversation. “Can you contact Giselle?”
Chester remained calm. His gaze was scarily dark behind his glasses. “Why do you think I’d be able to do that?”
To the rest of the world, Giselle and Chester were like parallel lines. Their paths would never intertwine. Now, however, Jonathan didn’t think that was true. He narrowed his eyes and was about to speak when someone coughed violently.
He and Chester turned in the direction of the sound, where they saw the edge of a light–colored outfit.
Jonathan’s first reaction was that it was a woman. Then, the realization dawned on him. Chester was almost 30 this year it was perfectly normal for him to have a woman in his life. If not, that would mean something was wrong with him.
Jonathan suddenly didn’t feel so irritated anymore. It looked like he’d been too sensitive. Setting aside his prejudice against Chester, he had to admit that the latter was the cream of the crop when it came to his appearance, family background, and capabilities.
As for Giselle? She was just a fake heiress who’d stolen Charlotte’s life. She was boring and conservative. How could she and Chester have anything to do with each other?
If not for their seven years together, Jonathan felt he could easily get together with another woman who was
leagues above her. Giselle wasn’t the best woman he could have. On the contrary, he was the best man she would ever be with.

The Lawson family practically held court over Seaworth City. Giselle was reaching beyond her status by being with him.
The more Jonathan thought about it, the more sense it made. He gradually calmed down. Then, his phone vibrated.
