Seraphine’s Plan Unfolds
The moon hung low in the sky, casting a dim glow over the twins’ quarters as Seraphine gathered Lyra and Eryon for what she called “the next phase.” Her silver eyes burned with intensity, her voice commanding yet filled with a deceptive warmth.
“The blood moon is close,” she began, her tone heavy with urgency. “We need to act now.”
Eryon leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. His wolf stirred restlessly beneath his skin, uneasy with the pace at which things were escalating. “You keep saying that,” he said, his voice low. “But what happens after? What happens to us?”
Seraphine turned to him, her expression softening. “You’ll be free,” she said, stepping closer. “No more hiding, no more running. You’ll finally have the life you deserve.”
Her words lingered in the air, but Lyra’s instincts screamed caution. “What if we don’t want this life?” she asked quietly, her silver eyes narrowing.
Seraphine’s smile faltered for a moment before she knelt in front of Lyra, her hands resting gently on her shoulders. “Lyra,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion, “I love you. I love both of you. Everything I’m doing is for you—for the family we lost.”
Lyra hesitated, torn between the maternal warmth in Seraphine’s gaze and the nagging unease that had been growing since her arrival.
Eryon shifted uncomfortably, his amber eyes flicking to the artifact glowing faintly beneath the floorboards. “And if we fail?” he asked, his voice tight.
Seraphine rose, her expression hardening. “Then we don’t fail,” she said firmly. Her gaze swept between them, her tone softening again. “But you have to trust me. We’re so close, my children. Don’t falter now.”
Lyra exchanged a glance with Eryon, her wolf growling faintly in the back of her mind. Something about Seraphine’s certainty left her feeling trapped, as though they were pieces in a game they didn’t fully understand.
Seraphine stepped back, her silver eyes glinting in the dim light. “Rest tonight,” she said, her tone soothing. “Tomorrow, we’ll take the next step together.”
As she disappeared into the shadows, Lyra turned to Eryon. “Do you trust her?”
Eryon’s jaw tightened as he stared at the spot where Seraphine had been. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “But I don’t think we have a choice.”
