Chapter 9
Jonah couldn’t help but shudder as he looked at the deliveryman’s hand. He still vividly remembered what happened the last time he received a parcel.
He retrieved the document, feeling it through the envelope. When he realized there was a small notebook inside, he finally signed it.
“Chelsea must’ve sent this to me. I knew she was still hung up on me,” he mumbled, tearing open the document envelope.
However, he froze when he saw a piece of divorce certificate inside. “How could this be?”
Jonah tremblingly pulled out the divorce agreement, then collapsed onto the ground like a puppet with its strings cut.
In a frenzy, he rushed to his company’s building, only to find that the towering sign that once bore the name “Sawyer Group” had, at some point, been replaced with “Nelson Group“.
At that moment, a familiar voice pierced through the air. “Look–isn’t that the old Sawyer Group’s mighty CEO? Why is he acting like a tramp now?”
When Jonah looked back, he found Zachary wrapping an arm around Lucy while they leaned against a Ferrari.
“Luce?” Jonah looked at Lucy in disbelief.
Lucy wrapped her arms around Zachary’s waist and leaned flirtatiously against his chest. “Call me Lucy, or my Zachy will get jealous.”
Their actions enraged Jonah to the point where he started shaking. “How could you guys do this to me? Lucy, I lost everything because of you. Even Chelsea has abandoned me. How could you, out of everyone, do this?”
Lucy wore a passive look. “You’re poor now. You’re out of my league.”
“You bitch! If you hadn’t put those ideas into my head back then, I would’ve never committed such a big mistake. It was all because of you!”
Jonah charged toward her, only for Zachary to kick him to the ground. “Get your hands off my woman, you piece of trash.”
He then stomped on Jonah’s hand and delivered a kick across his face. Jonah’s two front teeth were knocked out in an instant. Blood filled his mouth, flowing without end.
Clearly, Zachary had been holding a grudge against him over their last encounter. Having felt inferior to Jonah for the last few years, he thought it was finally time to give him a taste of his medicine.
“How dare you hit me?” The furious Jonah covered his mouth yet was too powerless to fight back.
Zachary stepped on Jonah’s hand again, twisting his heel while he was at it. “So what if I hit you? Should I have asked for permission?
“Tell me—you don’t actually believe that you’re still a CEO, right? Chelsea sold me the company at a dirt cheap price, and I’m now this building’s owner. Heck, even your woman is mine now.
He shot Jonah a provocative look, then spat on his head.
“I won’t let you guys off.” Jonah glared harshly at them, his hands tightened into fists.
Then, Lucy slowly crouched before him, her face nothing short of mockery. “Why don’t you spend your energy somewhere else instead? Literally, anyone on this street is worth more than you. What do you have against us?”
Blood continued spilling out of Jonah’s mouth, but he fixed his stare on her. “So, this is the real you.”
She let out a chuckle and patted his cheek. “It’s human nature to reach for more. If you were still the same man from a month ago, I swear I would’ve stayed with you.” With that, she grabbed Zachary’s hand, stood on her toes, and planted a kiss on his cheek. “Let’s go. Don’t we have somewhere else to be?”
