Chapter 108

Katrina’s POV

How did this get here? I stumbled back,my palm slapping against my mouth

I was on the top floor. The first was the rose on my table top, now there’s a petal on my

window

This one thing threw me into a state of panic and my next actions were uncontrolled

My feet moved around the room, my fingers working. The door was locked, the curtains drawn and every light in the room

was on

  1. 45

Still, I felt like I was being watched

I knew it was my paranoia making me feel that way, but I couldn’t help it

I forced myself to take a deep breath, gripping the edge of the bed to steady myself

Paranoia was most definitely not my thing at the moment

Silas might think he could handle this, but I couldn’t just sit here, waiting for Ethan to strike

I could be depending on Silas to save me and Ethan ends up killing me

But since when have I been scared of Ethan

The answer was quite obvious, since when he somehow came to life. The only reasonable explanation was that the person I had killed was a doppleganger

My gaze flicked to the small desk against the wall and my eyes fell on the knife on it. It had been on my table for weeks now and I guess it was finally being put to use

I crossed the room and grabbed the blade and running my fingers over the sharp edge

If Ethan came for me, I wouldn’t care this time and I wouldn’t hesitate. I would just stab him

The minutes went on tortuously, I had to remain in my room with no source of entertainment and my heart racing at a million miles per hour

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t bored. I just needed something to take my mind off things

I tried pacing the room to keep my nerves in check, but every sound outside my door made me freeze

Suddenly, there was a faint tap against the window. My breath caught, and I whirled around, clutching the knife tightly

What was that

The curtains were closed, but I could see the outline of something against the glass

Not again

Not for the second time while I was still in this room

My hands trembled as I stepped closer, every instinct screaming at me to run. But where could I go? Stepping out of this room was making myself an obvious target for Ethan, and I don’t want that

Slowly, I pulled the curtain aside, bracing myself for what I might see

Chapter 108

There was nothing. Just the empty garden below

If there was no one here, then who was tapping

But then I saw itanother rose petal stuck to the glass, almost identical to the first. My heart thundered in my chest as I backed away, the knife shaking in my grip

How was he getting to me on the top floor? There wasn’t a ladder around for someone to climb, but still

90

This wasn’t a game. Ethan was toying with me, sending a message loud and clear. He could get to me whenever he wanted

It didn’t matter where I was, as long as he wanted to get me, had do thay

I needed to do something

I rushed to my bedside table, fumbling for my phone. My hands shook so badly that I almost dropped it, but I managed to dial Silas’s number

It rang once, twice, three times. No answer

Come on, Silas,I whispered, my voice trembling. Pick up.”

It’s always when I need him the most

When it went to voicemail, I cursed under my breath and tried again. Still no answer

Tears burned the back of my eyes as I threw the phone onto the bed in frustration

I stared at the phone, my mind racing. Silas wasn’t answering, and I couldn’t just sit here, waiting for Ethan to make his next

move

It was going to be my responsibility to take care of myself snd it shouldn’t be that hard

Gripping the knife tightly, I forced myself to think. There had to be another way. Silas had men stationed all over the estate -someone had to know what was going on. But leaving my room felt like walking into a trap

I was safer in my room, though I didn’t have food but at least I could be alive for a while

Another tap on the window shattered my thoughts. This one was louder, sharper, like something hard striking the glass. The distance between my window and the ground made me question of I was losing my mind

I spun toward the sound, my chest tightening. The curtains were still halfopen, but I couldn’t see anything outside

A chill ran down my spine

Get it together, Katrina,I whispered to myself, though my voice was shaky. You’re not going to let him scare you.”

And that was easier said than done because at the moment, I was scared

I edged toward the window, my knife ready to stab at whoever it was

My palms were sweaty, and my heart pounded so loudly I couldn’t hear anything else above it

I hated this. Hated the I was feeling and the fact Ethan knew when to get to me

Just as I reached the window, the lights flickered before it went off

No,I breathed, my hands trembling in fear as my fingers dug into my palm

Chapter 108

My breath hitched as I pressed my back against the wall, my fingers gripping the knife so hard it hurt

The faint rustling sound came again, this time from the corner of the room

90%

1 froze, every muscle in my body locking up. My eyes darted toward the noise, but the darkness was too thick. I couldn’t see anything

Who’s there?I managed to whisper. It was a miracle I was able to speak at that moment

Silence

Then, a low laugh echoed through the room making my blood run cold

Miss me, Katrina?”

I could recognize that voice anywhere and I knew just who jt was

Ethan. It was taunting, and far too close

I couldn’t tell where it was coming from, but I didn’t wait to find out. I bolted toward the door, trying to pull it open but it was almost impossible

My fingers slipped once, twice, before I finally managed to twist it open

The door flew open, and I stumbled into the hallway, gasping for air. The knife was still in my hand, but my legs felt weak

Ididn’t stop to look back

The house was eerily quiet, the usual faint hum of electricity gone. Even the guards seemed to have disappeared, leaving the long hallway empty

Just when you needed them, they vanished

Silas!I screamed, my voice echoing off the walls

Silas!”

No answer. Where was he? And why wasn’t he answering

My legs burned as I reached the staircase, my breaths coming in short gasps

I gripped the railing to steady myself, my grip on the knife slipping

Just as I started down the stairs, I see someone standing there, right at the bottom

my throat

I froze, my heart leaping into my

The man stepped forward, the dim light from the window catching his face. It wasn’t Silas. It wasn’t one of the guards, either

It was Ethan
