The blood drained from her face and her heart thumped in fear. “I don’t have a passport. I never planned on going abroad, so I never applied for one. I-” She looked at his steak and quickly said, “I can’t get used to food abroad. If I were to be sent there, I might starve to death.” He won’t want his kids to die, will he?

A sneer curled Conrad’s lips. “And here I thought you were not a picky eater.”

“I’m not picky. I just really like western food. That I can deal with. It’s why I’m never going abroad, not even if it’s the last thing I do,” said Angela seriously. That should show him my resolve.

Conrad gave her a weird look, like he thought she was out of her mind. “So, you’re not going to Parovine’s jewelry exhibit?”

Huh? Angela froze. She had almost forgotten about that. That was one of the biggest exhibits in the world. As the continent’s top jewelry chain, the company would take part in the exhibit every year. She had dreamt of having the chance to go, but she wondered if she would be held hostage and never allowed to come back.

It was a dilemma, and she kept fidgeting. This was going to be the most difficult decision of her life.

Conrad noticed the weird reaction, so he said, “You’re not suited for long travels. I’ll get Kelly to go.”

Frustrated, Angela said, “I can go.” She would not let this chance slip. It was a rare one. The reason Kelly could still stand strong was that the announcement of the new product had just been made. If she was embroiled in a plagiarism scandal, it would hurt the sales number, and two, Kelly was known enough in the jewelry world. If she wanted to replace Kelly, Angela needed a chance to shine.

“The exhibit’s next month, isn’t it? I’d have passed the critical period, so I can board a flight. Parovine’s going to be cold, so I’ll just cover myself up with a thick coat. No one will notice. don’t worry.” She was staking her life and freedom on this. Maybe Wilhelmina was just scaring

me.

Conrad’s eyes glinted, but none could tell what he was thinking. “Pick someone from your department to accompany you…”

“Sure.” Angela nodded with a grin, then she finished her lunch. “I’ll get back to work now. I’ll get my passport tomorrow.”

Conrad saw her off and smiled. Angela might be a deeply flawed person, but she was a model employee for the company. He went back to his office and plopped down before the window, sipping on his tea.

Kevin said softly, “All the arrangements are made. We’ll be taking her from Parovine to Sizzeria and have her wait until the day of the delivery.”

Conrad nodded, the look in his eyes darkening.

Angela went back to her seat and started looking forward to the Parovine trip. It was the capital of art every artist dreamed of seeing. Saint Maria Castle, Loufre, Euphos Tower, Versche… All of those were the epitome of the art world.

Just then, the haute couture department led a client to her. He wanted to have a diamond necklace made, and he specifically asked Angela to do it.

Angela was surprised to see Christopher coming in, and she took him to the meeting room. “Gift for your girlfriend?”

Christopher shrugged. “I’m single. It’s for my aunt. Her birthday’s next month.”

“Oh, Miss Prescott’s mother?” Lana did tell her that Wilhelmina’s mother was Sheldon’s sister.

Christopher shook his head. “No, she’s the other aunt. I’m talking about my real aunt.” He stared at the ground, and sadness welled up in his eyes. “My mother died when I was little. When Dad was out for work, my aunt was the only one taking care of me. Now that Dad’s gone too, I only have my aunt left.”

That stirred something within Angela. If Conrad and Wilhelmina got married and had their own children, she wondered if her own kids would be redundant. Perhaps they would end up as pitiful as Christopher. “Your mother’s been abroad all these years?”
