He tightened his grip, the pain drawing a moan out of Angela, and a wave of chill spread across her body. “I did like him before, but that was in the past. Never stayed in contact once the trip was over. It’s true, I swear.”
Conrad thought of something, and the look on his face turned icier. “So, Christopher’s the one you tried to simp over?”
“Yes,” said Angela, her voice barely a whisper. She felt like she was slowly getting torn apart, layer by layer.
Conrad hissed. For some reason, he was more incensed by her honest answer. It felt like she just stabbed him with a little needle. Quickly, he let her go, lest he went on a rampage and crushed her chin. “Anything else you want to tell me about?”
Angela checked the lie detector. She actually lied once. Did he notice that? Is that why he’s interrogating me? I’m not smart enough to win against technology. I just hope he’ll show me mercy.
She gulped, and with a tremulous voice, she said, “I’ll talk. I–I left the design papers behind on purpose during the celebration. I was just upset to see Kelly shine so brightly during the press conference, a–and I made a little mistake.” She looked at him, her eyes glistening with tears. “Please don’t fire me.”
Conrad froze for a moment. I knew that woman wouldn’t take any mistreatment lying down. However, that wasn’t what he cared about. “Anything else between you and Christopher you’re not telling me?”
Angela shook her head. “No. We’re not even friends. Acquaintances, more like.”
You call that simping? Conrad noticed the complaint in her tone, and it made him more annoyed.
The woman in black said, “Sir, no irregularities this time. Her heartbeat only sped up when she was answering the last question. Everything else is fine.”
Conrad shot her a dark look, much to her confusion. She whispered, “That’s what the lie detector told me.
That didn’t help at all. The look on Conrad’s face turned harder and icier, and anger flared in his heart. She seduced me multiple times. Isn’t that lying? This machine’s malfunctioning. Frustrated, he tore off the lie detector and told the woman in black to leave.
Angela heaved a sigh of relief. Did I pass? “May I go home now?”
Conrad narrowed his eyes, his gaze cold. “You’re not allowed to see Christopher from now on.”
He was imperious, much to Angela’s annoyance. She was not his slave, and she wouldn’t do as she was told. “I have no idea why you’re so worried. We’re just acquaintances. At most, we’d go out for meals. Maybe he won’t even contact me anymore.” A while later, she said seriously, “And the contract states that we’re not allowed to meddle with each other’s private affairs. I’ve been following the rules, so please, do the same.”
She stood up and walked toward the open door. Never would Angela compromise on things she shouldn’t.
Conrad glared at her, his eyes flaring with fury, then he charged ahead and grabbed her arm, pinning her against the door. “Don’t test my patience.” If Angela were to disobey him, he would lock her up until the day of her delivery,
