After calming down, I calculated roughly how much Greyson had pocketed in kickbacks and bribes, and identified which business partners had participated in these dealings. The scale was staggering, implicating the company itself. This meant Greyson wouldn’t just lose his job–he’d likely be facing jail time.

After backing up the evidence, I forwarded the email to the Procurement Department manager.
Upon receiving my email, the manager met with me privately. His subtle hints suggested I avoid blowing things out of proportion. I also didn’t want the company’s reputation tarnished, but after some thought, I concluded that reporting to the authorities was the best course of action.
Meanwhile, Greyson was miles away on a business trip, arm around a beautiful woman, drinking with a client. He raised a toast to the business partner, who smirked and handed him a thick stack of cash from his jacket pocket. Greyson discreetly accepted, feeling the thickness and knowing it was a sizable sum. His job paid well, and the extra income was too tempting to consider leaving. Besides, Aurora was so easy to fool–after a couple of minor reports, she already trusted him. Only he understood how lucrative Procurement could be.
As he picked up the microphone to sing, there was a knock at the door. He gestured for the music to stop and went to open it, only to find two police officers. A sense of dread washed over him as he hesitantly asked, “Is something wrong?”
The officers handcuffed him on the spot, informing him he’d be taken to the station.

When my father heard about it, he called me home.
“Daughter, I used to think you weren’t ready, that you needed more time. But now I believe you’re capable of carrying on the family’s responsibilities. From now on, you’ll take my place on the board,” he said, passing the chairman’s role to me.
As the saying goes, “A setback may be a blessing in disguise.” A few months ago, I was frustrated over a lost promotion; now, I was about to step into the role of chairman.
At the company–wide Monday meeting, I pushed open the door, took the seat at the head of the room, and announced, “Hello, everyone. I’m your new chairman, Aurora.”
