Chapter 6
The entire day had been a rollercoaster for the Procurement Department, from the shock of the missing document in the morning, to the relief that followed, then the anger from hearing Molly’s scathing remarks about everyone, and finally, the curiosity sparked by whispers about the new supervisor allegedly being a mistress to some rich executive. Just one wave of drama after another.
“If it’s false, what will you do, Molly?” I asked her calmly, without a hint of guilt.
Not expecting me to be so brazen despite her having “evidence,” she replied confidently, “If it’s false, I’ll pack up and leave myself.”
That’s exactly what I was waiting for.
“Alright, to clear my name, I’ll have to call that bald guy myself.” I feigned reluctance, pulled out my phone, and mirrored the screen to the big display, dialing a video call. Everyone’s attention was fixed on the screen.
The call connected, and a middle–aged, bald man appeared.
When the manager recognized him, he quickly leaned into the frame to greet him, “Chairman, it’s been a while.”
The room erupted with shock, and Greyson looked stunned as the man spoke.
“It’s been a while! Has my daughter been causing you any trouble? Aurora, what’s up?”
The chairman was Aurora’s father.
“No way! This can’t be!” Molly, overwhelmed, collapsed onto the floor. She had just declared she’d quit if her claims were false, never imagining that the man in question was her boss’s father.
Greyson was equally floored, his mouth agape. He’d known her family was wealthy but never imagined her father was the company’s chairman.

Everyone else was also stunned–the “new supervisor” was the chairman’s daughter.
“Dad, one of my colleagues saw you pick me up last time and mistook you for some rich man sponsoring me, so I thought I’d give you a call to clear things up,” I explained, panning the camera to show my colleagues.
Understanding the situation, my dad’s face grew stern. “Who’s wasting their time spreading such nonsense? Don’t they realize how important a young woman’s reputation is? Aurora, if anyone keeps this up, let me know, and I’ll take legal action.”
I glanced at Molly. Hearing my father’s threat of legal action, she was speechless with fear. She now faced not only losing her job but a potential lawsuit as well.
Unexpectedly, Greyson leaned into the frame, enthusiastically greeting my father, “Hello, sir. I’m Aurora’s boyfriend. I’d love to visit with Aurora sometime soon.”
I hadn’t mentioned Greyson to my father and was about to explain when my dad interrupted.
“You young folks can’t call that ‘dating.‘ Just friends hanging out–nothing serious.”
Greyson’s smile froze, embarrassment evident. I caught on immediately–my father saw through him in an instant and wasn’t impressed. His people–reading skills were as sharp as ever, spotting Greyson’s true colors right away.
Everyone around noticed Greyson’s awkwardness, whispering about how he was clearly trying to climb the social ladder. Turns out the charming, “wealthy” Greyson was just trying
to live off others, only to be shut down on the spot by his “future father–in–law.”
”
“Alright, Dad, I won’t keep you any longer. I’ve got some things to handle here. Bye!”
After hanging up, I turned to settle matters.
“Molly, you just promised to leave if it was false. Now it’s time to follow through.” I crouched down, looking at her in her/shocked state on the floor.
Finally realizing she was cornered, Molly turned to Greyson in desperation, hoping he’d help her out of loyalty.

“Greyson, please, you have to help me. I’ve done so much for you–you can’t just abandon
me,” she pleaded, clutching at his pant leg, too desperate to choose her words.
