Chapter 2
After a while, the Procurement Manager led me to the entrance of the conference room, where the entire team was already waiting. He asked me to wait at the door, saying he wanted to give everyone a surprise by announcing the arrival of a rare talent. I smiled; for
Greyson, it would indeed be a big surprise.
Listening from the doorway, I heard the manager start the meeting. He began by reviewing
last month’s work in the department, praising the top three performers. Greyson received
special recognition and stood up to say, “The manager’s encouragement motivates me, and
I’ll keep pushing forward.” His words were met with applause, and the manager nodded at
him with satisfaction.
Then, the manager announced, “The department supervisor role has been decided. Now, let
me reveal the name.” Greyson’s confidence was palpable, and everyone exchanged
knowing glances, as if his promotion was already a certainty.
“The new supervisor is our new colleague, Aurora. Everyone, please welcome her.”
As the words left his mouth, before anyone could react to the surprise, I pushed open the
door and walked in, standing right in the center of the office.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Aurora, and from now on, I’ll be your new supervisor.”
Greyson’s face went from shock to fury. He stormed over, grabbing my arm and dragging me behind the office, ignoring everyone’s curious stares.
“What does this mean? Why did you transfer to the Procurement Department?” he
demanded, his voice low but filled with barely concealed anger and resentment.
“Oh, it was decided by the higher–ups. If you’re concerned about appearances, I can talk to
another supervisor and have you transferred elsewhere,” I replied innocently, gently pushing his hand away.
Hearing that I was now his supervisor, he began breathing heavily in rage, realizing his anticipated promotion had slipped away, leaving him seething with hatred. Watching him struggle to contain his real feelings, he finally forced a strained smile and said,

“Alright, Aurora. Whether it’s you or me in this position, it’s fine. Congratulations on your
promotion.”
I patted his shoulder and returned to the office.
Promotion is sweet; stealing it from an enemy makes it twice as satisfying.

On my first day as supervisor, someone tried to give me trouble. Greyson’s buddy, John, came to me with a document to sign in the morning.
“Sis–in–law, please sign this for me,” he said with a knowing smile.
Hearing him call me that, I knew Greyson must be stirring things up behind the scenes. After all his talk about keeping a low profile on office romances, now that I was his superior, he couldn’t wait to broadcast our relationship.
I opened the file and saw several issues, so I handed it back.
“There are errors. Go correct them and bring it back.”
I was about to tell him not to call me “sis–in–law“-this was a workplace, not a family gathering–when he impatiently replied,
“Just sign it for me, sis–in–law. I’ve rewritten it three times already. Anyway, women shouldn’t be so aggressive about taking their boyfriend’s promotion spot. Careful, or Greyson might find someone else.”
Ignoring his comment, I watched him leave with reluctance.
Later that afternoon, as I was reviewing documents, I noticed the same file John had given me that morning, with the errors uncorrected but, shockingly, my signature already on it.
I immediately called a meeting with everyone, as Greyson was out for business. Throwing the document on the table, I asked John, “Who signed this?”
Seeing I was about to lose my temper, John tried to smooth things over,
“Greyson signed it for me. Come on, sis–in–law, don’t be so strict. It’s the same whether you

or Greyson sign it–you’re a couple, aren’t you?”
