Chapter 10
“Mom, I didn’t want to cut off ties with you!”
I was a waste in life without your care!
“I couldn’t live without you, Mom, sob, please don’t leave me…‘
Brock stared at me with empty eyes.
The look in his eyes seemed as if he was looking at a person he had never known before. Jamie
begged me for a long time, but I remained indifferent. The terrified and crying boy had no choice
put to turn to his father, screaming with a heart–wrenching voice.
“Dad! Didn’t you say that Mom was just angry for a moment and didn’t mean it when she said she
didn’t want me? You lied to me! You lied to me!”
Can you please help me
e tell her that I have realized my mistake and that I will
tell Mom? Can you
definitely behave well in the future…
Brock turned to the side, covering his eyes. After a while, he finally managed to calm himself down and turned back to look into my eyes. “Maliyah…”
I interrupted him indifferently.
“Take Jamie back and never show up again.

After saying that, I ignored Brock and Jamie’s eyes filled with pain, and slowly closed the wooden
courtyard door.
Back in the living room, Grandma was sitting in a corner of the sunlight, mending the worn–out Mr.
Bunny with her glasses.
I poured two cups of tea, one for my grandmother and one for myself, who was sitting in front of the laptop, getting ready to work. It was the fifth month after the divorce.
I went to school to pick up Haylee for Sophie, who was busy working overtime.
As soon as Haylee got in the car, she started gossiping with me about the recent major events–that happened at school.
She said that last Monday, there was a boy named Jamie in the Advanced Class of Grade 9. He jumped from the fourth floor while on his way to evening study due to a fight with his alcoholic father. He is currently under observation in the intensive care unit, and it is unknown whether he will pull through.
Because of this incident, the school even organized special lectures on adolescent mental health, which took up several of her lunchtime piano lessons.
After listening to the girl’s innocent complaint, I remained silent for a moment and gently brushed

her stray hair away from her forehead, tucking it behind her ear.
I said, “We Haylee can’t be as foolish as that boy. Life is still long, even if we make mistakes, as long as we have the courage to start over, there is no obstacle that we can’t overcome.”
After Haylee nodded in confusion, she held my hand and acted coquettishly.
“With the protection of my mother and Maliyah, I was not afraid of anything.”
“That’s right, tell me, what do you want to eat? We’ll leave right now.”
The neon streetlights flickered incessantly on both sides of the road as I gripped the steering wheel and slowly drove the silver–white sedan into the traffic flow.
The road has always been under our feet.
With determination, one can reach anywhere.
