Chapter 4
In the man’s cold and indifferent tone, there was a hint of undeniable frustration.
“Maliyah, feel free to make any requests, I would agree to them.”
As an exchange, you come to the hospital now to take care of Jamie. You know how busy I am, I can’t
possibly stay here and look after him all the time.” I chuckled softly.
“My only request has always been one thing, to expedite the divorce proceedings with me.”
As for Jamie, as my ex–wife, I can only suggest that you find a caregiver for him as soon as possible.
I’m not sure which sentence angered Brock, but there were several loud noises of items being swept off the ground coming from the phone.
Following closely behind was the man’s furious and mocking interrogative voice.
Jamie was the child you carried for ten months and gave birth to after two difficult days of labor.
“Maliyah, do you really want to divorce me and make our son a child from a single–parent family?”
“How could it be?”
I kindly reminded Brock that there was always a loving woman standing silently by his side, waiting
for him to turn around.
“Ivy has always cared about Jamie, you could say it’s a case of loving the house and its crows.”
However, Jamie has always been looking forward to the day when you would turn Ivy into his
mother.
“As a father of a child, you should have fulfilled this wish for him sooner,” Brock clenched his fist
and touched his forehead.
“Are you really willing to hear your son calling another woman mom?”
Without any hesitation, I replied, “One hundred, willingly.”
Three years ago, the Meng family went bankrupt abroad, and Ivy returned home in a sorry state.
Ignoring everyone’s objections, Brock hired Ivy as his personal secretary to help manage the core affairs within the company.
Last year on Mother’s Day, Jamie ordered ninety–nine carnations and went to the company to give them to Ivy. He also skipped classes multiple times to have meals with her.
In fact, they were the real family.
As for me, after realizing the reality, I had to continue living and keep moving forward.
Chapter 4
On the phone, Brock, contrary to his usual behavior, kept on talking incessantly about something.
But I was too hungry and too lazy to waste time with him, so I impatiently told him.
“Next Monday, if you are not available to go to City Hall, then we will meet directly at the
courthouse.”
After saying that, I hung up the phone, turned it off, and walked into the restaurant.
Monday arrived.
Brock never appeared.
So I officially hired a lawyer and entrusted the divorce matters to the other party. It was a weekend evening half a month later.
In the field, wearing a straw hat, I gazed at the sunset on the horizon for a few seconds. I gently tapped the girl beside me and said with a smile.
“Haylee, Grandma has probably finished cooking. Let’s go back and have dinner.”
Haylee excitedly agreed and took my hand, holding freshly picked fruits in her other hand, and we ran together.
We came back home, laughing and talking. We pushed open the door. Just as we were about to share today’s achievements with Grandma, who was standing at the door, we walked in and noticed that Grandma’s expression was not quite natural.
Following my grandmother’s gaze, I belatedly noticed an unexpected guest in the living room.
It was Jamie.
Grandma hadn’t seen Jamie for many years, but every year she would use her old–fashioned mobile phone, tremblingly and carefully write down messages, urging me to send her the latest family photo. Therefore, she did recognize Jamie.
Although I never mentioned it to her, this elderly person who has lived alone for half a century has a clear and sharp mind. When she heard me ask her to take Haylee to the kitchen to wash the fruits and come out later, she understood.
The old man nodded sadly and brushed away a speck of dust from my cheek, hunching his back as he led the girl away.
