Chapter 2
Late that night, I, who had suffered from insomnia for many years, had a good dream.
I knew, I finally came back home.
Two days later, I received a call from Brock.
The man asked me coldly, “Where did you hang the silk shirt you bought overseas last year?”
I instinctively informed him of the exact location and suggested that he use the tie placed on the far Jeft of the storage compartment, paired with this shirt.
There came the rustling sound of clothes from Brock’s side.
When he spoke again, it was with a somewhat awkward approval.
“It’s okay, I’ll just wear this for tonight’s dinner party.”
He paused and then said, “Send me your address, and I will have someone deliver the
custom–made jewelry for the anniversary.”
I refused.
“No need, my taste is different from Ivy’s.”
Ivy Pugh was Brock’s first love.
Since she returned to her country and became Brock’s personal secretary.
From the itinerary to the gifts, she decided everything around the man.
“When he heard me mention Ivy, Brock’s tone became extremely cold.
“What are you? Dare to compare yourself with Ivy.”
I chuckled silently.
“You’re right, it was me who didn’t deserve it. That’s why I let you stop wasting good things on
me.”
Brock was left speechless by what I said.
I glanced at the clock on the wall and continued, “Could you please have Ivy arrange a day for you to go to City Hall as soon as possible?”
Just notify me by text message once the date is confirmed, there’s no need to call again.
After I finished speaking, I was about to hang up the phone, but Brock changed the subject.
“My son is next to me, and he wants to say a few words to you.”
Chapter 2
Without waiting for Jamie to speak, I immediately pressed the screen to turn it off. Just like that day, Jamie swiftly and decisively blocked me without any explanation.
I put down my phone and held my grandmother’s hand, accompanying her to watch the opera.
A week flew by in the blink of an eye.
While waiting for others at the hotel lounge, I received a call from an unknown number.
Jamie was the headmaster of the school.
He said that Jamie got into a fight with a classmate at school. The reason for the dispute was that Nie other person believed rumors and asked Jamie in front of the whole class about the reasons for his parents‘ divorce.
I spoke.
“This is not a rumor; I did indeed get divorced from Jamie’s father.”
The custody of the child was not in my hands, so I asked the teacher to trouble his father to handle
this matter.
Listen to me, the headmaster awkwardly expressed that Jamie only provided my phone number.
So, I had to bother the headmaster to set the phone to speaker mode.
In front of the injured student and his parents, I calmly said to Jamie.
“You were wrong to hit someone, and when you’re wrong, you should admit it. Isn’t this the principle that you and your father have always believed in?”
And also, whether it’s your father or you, please do not call me again no matter what happens in the
future.
Jamie, you needed to understand that I had no relationship with you anymore.
After saying that, I hung up the phone and waved goodbye with a smile to my best friend Sophie Madden, and her daughter Haylee Madden, while setting my phone on silent mode.
When I was pregnant with Jamie, I constantly fantasized that the baby in my belly would be a
daughter.
However, even though things didn’t go as planned, I still cherished Jamie like a treasure and took care of them wholeheartedly.
Before the age of six, Jamie would plant small trees in the backyard for the cats that died in cartoons. After preschool, Jamie would secretly hide a small red flower and gently place it by my ear when I wasn’t paying attention.
Later, Brock started frequently taking Jamie in and out of the old house.
Chapter 2
After turning eight, Jamie no longer cried and even stopped smiling.
He used to despise the red bricks and black tiles of his grandmother’s house, considering them inferior to the modern skyscrapers in the city.
