Chapter 10
“Scarlet, right? You were suspected of a theft case. Come with us!” “Theft? I didn’t do it, I didn’t!”
“Have you not yet? The bracelet worth 2 million on your wrist is the lost item. We caught you red–handed. What else do you have to say? The theft case worth 2 million, the owner will hold you accountable. Come with us immediately!”
“Two million! Two million? This bracelet is worth two million! Officers, are you sure you haven’t made a mistake? Besides, I acquired this, I didn’t steal it!”
‘Did you get the owner’s permission before taking it? Did you inform the owner? Taking without Permission is stealing, and the owner has provided surveillance footage clearly showing you taking it from Ms. Lynch’s dressing table while she was not at home. Do you still want to argue?”
Drew closed his eyes in despair, while Scarlet lay on the ground like a pile of mud, handcuffed by
the police and taken to the police car.
The last time I saw this family was during the pre–trial mediation phase of two cases.
After being locked up for several days, Kolby and Scarlet looked extremely haggard.
As soon as we met, Kolby knelt down in front of me and my mom, with snot and tears streaming
down his face, saying, “Penelope, please forgive us for Drew’s sake. We know we were wrong…”
I simply ignored him and my gaze shifted past him to the equally exhausted Drew. He questioned me with a resentful tone, “Penelope, is there really no room for negotiation in this matter? I’ve
been looking for you everywhere these past few days, I know I’ve let you down, but… but they’re my parents! Please, Penelope, have mercy on them, I beg you!”
“It’s your parents, not mine. I am not a Bodhisattva, and you can’t ask me for help.”
“Penelope! Honestly, after being together for such a long time, have I ever let you down? It’s just this one thing… But you, you didn’t even tell me your true situation…”
It’s really shameless. I interrupted directly, “No apologies to me? Do you dare to say that you didn’t
have the intention to steal my bracelet? What did you say at the dinner table when your mother wanted to take my bracelet? You haven’t seen what she was wearing on her wrist for so many days away from my house, right? If it had been delivered to the police department one day earlier, wouldn’t the officer have found you? Wasn’t I giving you a chance? Don’t say anything else, with this attitude, why should I mediate with you? Just get out of here!”
The court staff separated us and asked us to calm down individually.
Two hours later, an agreement was reached. I retrieved the bracelet and reconciled with Scarlet, on- the condition that Drew and Scarlet would never set foot in Amberhelm again for the rest of their
lives.
had no good impression of Scarlet and I didn’t quite understand my mom’s request.
Chapter 10
My mother said not to push the poor ghost too hard. They have nothing, carrying a head on their shoulders. It’s not worth it to exchange lives with me if they are pushed too hard.
As for Kolby, after he hit me, I still wanted to seek forgiveness, but that was impossible!
He followed the procedure directly and was ultimately sentenced to eight months for intentional
injury.
Unfortunately, I did not have the experience of being imprisoned, so I do not know if the prison food could meet Kolby’s requirement of having a bowl of soup before every meal.
But it doesn’t matter anymore. Kolby didn’t stay in there for long. He couldn’t stand the behavior of The troublemakers in the same cell, so he tried to teach them a lesson because he was older. As a result, he got beaten up and lost all his teeth, and couldn’t even eat cabbage anymore.
Walking out of the court, my mom’s driver spotted us from afar and opened the door of the Mercedes–Benz in advance.
Drew and Scarlet were standing on the steps of the courthouse, watching as we got into the
Mercedes–Benz.
One day after work, I came back home and found my mom sitting in the living room. She had prepared a table full of dishes for me. Suddenly, she smashed that jade bracelet into pieces with a
hammer!
“That thing got dirty and brought bad luck. Mom bought you a new bracelet, wear it properly and don’t lose it!”
“Okay, Mom!”
