Chapter 3
The door was closed.
Rhys was standing outside the door, speaking

Rhys used to make me angry, and I would also talk to him through the door like this
It seemed to have become an understanding between us. A scent of smoke drifted in
Rhys didn’t usually smoke, only when he was feeling sad or frustrated, he would smoke to
cigarettes.
He sighed heavily, his voice deep and tinged with stubbornness, “Bridget, I know this has hurt you deeply, but I had to do it.”
“Kaitlin and I were desk mates from kindergarten, elementary school, middle school to high
school. We had a deep bond.”
“Although we hadn’t seen each other for a few years after high school, she had always been
concerned about me in her heart, and I couldn’t let her down.”
“Last month, Kaitlin was diagnosed
Rhys suddenly choked up.
Summutidn’t have many days left to live. Auto–added to the Library
He leaned against the wall, looking up with tears swirling in his eyes, feeling very sorrowf
After a while, he wiped away his tears, composed himself, and his gaze became determined. “Kaitlin’s biggest wish before she died was for me to marry her in a grand manner. You tell with such a small request, how could I not agree to it?”
“Bridget, you have always been gentle, understanding, and considerate. You definitely wouldn’t be jealous of someone who is about to die, right?”
“I know you were feeling very upset now, but you surely could understand my good intention right?”
“Don’t worry, after Kaitlin leaves, I will spend the rest of my life with you. I will work and eart
money while you stay at home taking care of the children. I will fulfill the promise I made before, to love you forever.”
I have fantasized countless times about what life would be like after marrying Rhys.
I told Rhys that I wanted two children, one boy and one girl.

at the door.
“Hello, Kaitlin, why were you crying?”
I could hear Kaitlin sobbing on the other end of the phone, even through the door.
Rhys was extremely nervous and whispered, “Are you not satisfied with that wedding dress? Well, wait for me a few minutes, I will come over and help you choose the most beautiful one.”
“I must make you the happiest woman in the world.”
“Kaitlin, I loved you.”
After hanging up the phone, Rhys prepared to leave.
He took a few steps forward and suddenly stopped.
Turning back to the front door, his attitude became very serious. “Bridget, you have to believe that I have always loved you.”
“I am going to find Kaitlin now, just to fulfill her final wish. Once I finish this task, I will come back and spend the rest of my life with you, growing old together.
Our eyes met, and I could see sincerity in his eyes. He spoke with great seriousness.
I just said “I love you” to two different women within one minute, being serious.
The corners of the mouth lifted in a mocking arc. I found it extremely laughable.
He said he loved me, but he was also earnestly planning how to make Kaitlin the happiest woman.
Looking at him leaving me behind, I turned around and walked away quickly.
The moment the door closed, I crouched in the corner, burying my head in my arms, a profound sense of loss engulfing my entire body.
Then I laughed again, the sound getting louder and louder. Yeah, seven years of emotions.
I ultimately made a mistake.
But since the person he loved was not me, why should I be sad for him again.
Wipe away the tears.
I decided to start living for myself from now on and no longer let others dictate my life.
